Be it known that I, LEVI WATsoN Nononoss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Forth Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Piano, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in pianos, and has for one of its objects to provide a reversible panel below the keyboard, this portion of the piano being exposed. to the greatest wear and soon becoming disfigured, while by the employment of a reversible panel finished on both sides the piano may be made to present a finished appearance for a much greater length of time than usual.

A further object of the invention is to provide a reversible panel one side of which carries auxiliary pedal members and a foot-rest for use by children, this side being exposed when the piano is to be used by young beginners, and the panel being reversed, so that the auxiliary pedals and foot-rests may be concealed within the casing of a piano when in ordinary use.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the lower portion of a piano-casing, showing'the employment of a reversible panel constructed and arranged in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the panel reversed. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of that face of the panel which carries the auxiliary pedals and foot-rests. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the opposite face of the panel.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawmgs.

In the upright piano illustrated in the drawings the lower panel 25 is made reversiblethat is to say, both of its faces are finished, and the finish may be the same on both sides or one may be different from the other. This panel is preferably provided at its lower edge with short pins 26, arranged to enter corresponding recesses in the lower cross-sill 28, and the upper edge of the panel is arranged to be engaged by a spring-catch 29, immediately under the keyboard-frame. The upper portion of thepanel is provided with knobs 30, one on each side, in order to facilitate the removal and reversing of the panel.

In some cases the instrument is used by a child or other person who cannot conven iently reach the pedals. To remedy this, one side of the panel is provided with an auxiliary foot-rest 31 and auxiliary pedal mem bers 32. These foot-rest and pedal memof the panel; but to provide for a greater security and prevent the rattling which might occur from loose fastenings it is preferred to form a rigid structure by employing a pair of brackets 33, having vertically-elongated base members 34, which are glued to the face 'of the panel and the connection further strengthened by means of securing-screws or the like. These brackets are provided with vertically-disposed. openings for the reception of the stems 35 of the auxiliary pedal members, and these stems have threaded upper and lower ends for the reception of disks 36, the upper disks being within convenient reach of a child, while the lower disks are arranged to rest on the forte and pianissimo pedals. The foot rest 31 is formed of a bar, which rests on both brackets 33 when in use, said bar being carried by a pair of links 37, which are connected to the base members 34, so that the foot-rest may be thrown up out of the way when not in use.

I claim 1. In a piano, a reversible panel, and auxiliary pedal members secured to one face thereof and adjustable to a concealed idle position within the piano-casing.

2. In a piano, a lower panel, and auxiliary pedal members carried thereby, the panel bein reversible to conceal the auxiliary peda member within the casing.

3. In a piano, a panel, an auxiliary footrest carried thereby, and means for supporting the foot-rest, said panel being reversible to conceal the foot-rest within the pianocasing.
