Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed November 28, 1905. Serial No. 289,475-
Tv aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICH L JOHANN LACK:
*NER, engineer, asubiect of the Emperor of This invention relates to a gas-generator;
and the object of the invention is to give motion to the contents of the generator so as to I prevent the agglomeration of the fuel, check the formation of hollow spaces, and cause the ashes and clinkers to continuously move downward and toward the axis of the generator; and the invention consists of the features, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and particularly point ed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accom p anying drawings, in which Figure '1 is a vertical sectional view of a generator; and Fig. 2 is a like view of the lower part of a generator, showing a modification.
This invention relates to a gas-generato in which the shaft comprises a stationary upper part a, one or .more middle parts l), rctating on the axis at y of the generator, and a lower part c, which also rotates on the said axis. The lower part c has the shapeof a lownwardly-tapering hollow body, such as the shape of a hopper of circular or polyg onal cross-section, as shown in the drawings. lts lower end (Z is open and dips into an ashreceiver c, which also forms a water seal. The parts a, I), and c of the shaft are made tight by a water or sand seal. The middle parts I) and the lower part c are rotatable for instance, mounted on ball-bearings g and ]tand are set in rotation mechanically by worm-gcari and. l: or the like. This rotation is effected in connection with the parts 5 and c either in the same or opposite direction and with the same or varying velocity. Thus a certain motion of the contents of the generator is produced which prevents the agglomeration of the fuel, checks the formation of hollow spaces, and causes the ashes and clinkers to continuously move downward and toward the axis of the generator. The
ashes and clinkers are thus diminished and I finally forced out at the lower end (Z of theover the same through a hopper Z into a channel m, from which they are removed by any kind of'conve er. The quantity of ashes and clinkers discharged time is regulated by varying t rotation of the shaft parts b and c, as also by an adjustable scraper n, which is arranged at the lower end (1 of the shaft and accelerates-the discharge over the edge of the ashreceiver.
The air (or the mixture of air and steam) is fed to the generator through a blast-pipe f, which extends either through the bottom of the ash-receiver into the interior of the generator, Fig. l, or into an air-chest r, Fig. 2, from which the air passes laterally through slots or holes 8 into the lower part c of the generator.
The shaft 'parts I) and c are cooled when required-for instance, by water or steamand are smooth within or provided with ribshaped projections 0 and 'p and the like.
For some kinds of fuel it. is preferable to 7 reduce the rotating speed of the middle parts I) of the shaft to zero t. e., to render the same stationary. For certain kinds of coal it is necessary to loosen the upper layer of the contents of the generator mechanically. This can be effected by a cooled stirrer g, whose downwardlydirected end if scrapes through the upper surface of the revolving contents of the generator.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, 1 declarethat what I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An improved gas generator, whose shaft comprises a stationary upper part a, one rotating middle part b and a revolving lower part c, which latter tapers downward, so that the ashes and clinkers are forced automatically toward the axis a: y of the generator, substantially as described and shown in the drawings.
}per unit of e speed ofv 2. A gas-producer having a revoluble body and a revoluble base, the walls of said parts being provided with inside ribs or projections.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MICHEL JOHANN LACKNER.
