v J. EISMAN. COMBINED WAIST HOLDER AND SKIRT SUPPORTER.
APgLICATION EILED APR.13,1905.
rsns 00., WASHINGTON, n. c.
JULIUS EISMAN, OF
TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
COMBINED WAIST-HOLDER AND SKIRT-SUPPORTER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907'.
Application filed April 13, 1905. Serial No. 255,437-
To aZZ whom, it may concern: Be it knownthat I, J ULIUs EISMAN, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Waist-Holder and Skirt-Supp orter, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined waist-holders and skirt-supporters, and the object of the invention is to devise a simple and efficient means for holding down the shirt-waist without injuring the fabric of which it is made and holding the skirt up without injuring the band and neoessarily holdin both shirt-waist and skirt together proper y at the back.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the applicability of my invention. Fig. 2 is an en arged detail of the inside of the belt, showing the gripping-strip. Fig. 3 is an enlarged .detail showing the skirt-support open and the top of the skirt in position ready to be inserted. Fig. 4 is a perspective detail showing the band inserted and gripped by the fastener when closed. Fig. 5 is a vertical section through the lower portion of the shirt-waist, belt, and fastener and the upper portion or band of the skirt. tail of the main member of the skirt-support with the clamping-lever removed.
In the drawings, like'letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure. A is the belt, and B a strip of material, preferably rubber or any other substance aving a like gripping quality. The strip B, it will be noticed, is provided with a series of corrugations B.
is one member of the skirt-sup ort, which is provided with slots C, through w ich extends the belt A, such belt passing underneath the central portion of the member O.
The member O is provided with a bent upper end 0 formed with depending arms O in the holes, in the lower end of which is journaled the plate-like lever D, having the trunnions D formed thereon. The arms C are located at such a distance from the main body of the member O as to leave an openin sufficient for the insertion of the band of the skirt. The member O is formed in the cen- Fig. 6 is a de-.
tral portion between the slots with corrugations O and teats O below the corrugations, such corrugations and teats being stamped up in the metal, but not through it, and being smooth, so as not to tear or injure the fabric in the band.
The belt is put on in the usual way and tightened around the waist. The clampinglever D is thrown into the position shown in Fig. 3, and the band of the skirt is then inserted up between the arms 3 and the main body of the member O, whereupon the lever is swung on its pivot into the position shown in Figs. 1, 4, and 5, thereby securely gripping the band of the skirt by means of the bent ends D and the teats C with which the bent end is in close proximity. It will now be seen that by means of the inner strip B, which I find in practice has a secure grip upon the waist and prevents it moving, and the skirt-supporting clamp hereinbefore described, that the shirt-waist and skirt will be held securely in place at the back.
It will be understood that it does not make any difference whether the skirt-supporting clamp is located over the divide in the back of the skirt or to one side of it, or when skirts are fastened in the front upon the band, back.
What I claim as my invention is- In a shirt-waist holder and skirt-supporter, the combination with a fabric band or belt having a back inside strip of resilient waterproof gripping material designed to prevent vertical displacement of the shirt-waist material and a reinforcement for the band, of a clamping device having the back plate thereof designed to extend and be held between the band and the reinforcing-strip, located centrally of the length of the stri and having arms extending downwardly from the upper edge, and the clamping-lever pivotally held in the arms and having the inner bent end designed to coact with the fabric band in front of the back plate, so as to grip the skirt as and for the purpose specified.
JULIUS EISMAN.
