The Schedule referred to in these Patent part To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, OATHABINE MAXWELL and I. NEWTON Pnmon, both of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Preparation of Steel for Corsets and Hoop-Skirts, that is not liable to rust and'we do'here by declare that the following is a full and exact description thereofl The natnie of our invention consists in coating the steel with a composition that will not scale oil, or wash offin' boiling, and will efi'eetually preventthe steel from rusting, or injuring the muslins or cloth by which it may be enclosed. i
' To enable others skilled in the art to make use of our invention, we will proceed to describe its composition and application.
We take, of any good harddrying tarnish,,(No. 1,
thirty-five parts; of finely-pulverized spar,'0r quartz,
or other silica, o.- 2,) thirty parts; of benzine on distillation of coal-oil spirits, (N o. 3,) thirty-five parts, and stirring them well together, (N0. 4,) we dip the steel in this'composition, and place it away to dry and harden,
and itis then prepared fop use,
