GEORGE B. woonrnl ncr, or RANDOLPH, EW YORK.
TROUSEBS-PRESSER.
Application filed Angust To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, GEORGE B. 'WooDs MANCY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Randolph, in the'county of Oattarau: gus'and State of New York, have invented a new" and useful Trousers-Presser, of which the following'is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for pressing trousers and like garments, and has for its object to simplify'and improve the con-' struction and increase the efliciency and utility of devices of this character.
' -With these and other objects in view, which will appear as thenature" of the invention is better understood, the invention consists'in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed;
In the accompanying drawings, 'forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention 1 capable-oi carrying the same into practical operation. ln tne1 drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved device. Fig. 2 is an end view of the improved devicewith the clamping means disconnected. Fi 3 is an end-view with clamping means app 'ed.
The improved device comprises two leaves or plates 10 ii, conforming in outline some what to the garmenttobe pressed-as, ion
instance, a pair of trousers-end with spaced metal straps 12, secured transversely of the plate 1-0, and similar straps 1,3, secured transversely of the plate 11 the straps being'of resilient material. 7 I
1 The straps 12 are left free for a distanceat both ends, as at M 15,and the straps 13 are left free at one .end only, as at 16, whilethe otherends oi the straps 13 project beyond.
o the adjacent edge of the plate 11 and are curved outwardly, as shown at 17. The free ends of the straps 12 13 are connected by links 18, while the free ends of the straps 12 are providedwith linksl having came 20, movably disposed at their free endsand adapted to engage the projections 17 when the plates are to be disposed in closed position. The cams 20 are provided with operating-handles 2 i.
l The free portions 15 of the straps curve outwardly away hpm the outer .face oi'the plates 10 11 when the latter are in closed po- Specification of Letters Patent.

- sition, as in Fig. 2, and thus eicert a constant compressing force upon'the gprment held between them at one side, w ile the cam mechanism exerts a compressing force upon the other side. i The cam devices being arranged to swing from the free ends 0? the straps 12 by their links 19, the plates 10 and 11 can be separated and swingopen upon the links 18 as hinges when the garments are to be inserted and then the lattertightly compressed when the cams are closed and operated, as will be The plates 10 11 may be ofany size or form required and as -many of the sets of straps and cams employed as required.
Having thus described he invention, what .movably connecting the yielding ends of said straps at one edge of said plate, and fastening'devices swinging from the opposite ends of the straps of one of said plates and adaptedto be\detachably coupled to the adjacent straps of the other plate.
2. A garment-compressing device comprising a pair of pressing-plates, a plurality of straps of yielding material disposed transversely of each of said plates, and connected thereto intermediate their. ends, said ends projecting beyond the ed es of said plates and bent outwardly, links movably connecting said yielding straps at one end, links swinging from the opposite ends of the straps of one of said plates, and cams carried by the free ends of said swinging links and adapted to engage the adjacent straps of the other plate.
3. A garment-pressing device comprising a pair or pressing-plates, a lurality of straps of resilient material attaced to each plate transversely thereof, yielding hinge connections between opposing straps at one edge of each plate, and yielding separable connections between opposing straps at'the opposite edges of said-plates.
4. A garment-pressing device comprising a pair of pressing-plates, a plurality of straps attached to each plate transversely thereof,
