UNITED STATES PATENT orr ron CHARLES C. MITTENDORF, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI GARBAGE-RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 16. 1906. Serial No 330,864.
Patented Maren 5, 1907.
Toma/Zl whom it may concern.-
- Be it known that .1, CHARLES C. Mrrrnn improvements in sanitary garbage-receptacles, the object of the invention being to produce an apparatus of this nature so con- 'structedthat any liquids which may be placed in the same may drain through and make exit and so constructed that the parts may be readily cleansed.
More specifically, the invention comprises a garbage-receptacle having a. hinged lid upon the top, whereby garbage may be in-v serted in the receptacle, and the provision of a hinged end regulating the exit-opening, which is adapted to extend through anopening in a fence, whereby the garbage may be gathered without going into the yard in which the receptacle is located.
My invention comprises various other dctails of construction and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved garbage-receptacle as positioned with one end in an opening in a fence. Fi 2 is a sectional view longitudinally throug the-apparatus. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the removable false bottom.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A desighates a receptacle made, preferably, of galvanized iron and may be of any shape on size and has preferably an inclined bottom B and ahinged lid 0. The end D in the recess is closed.,-and the opposite end is open, a'fhinged door E being 1 provided to close the same. About the 0 en" .end ofzthereceptacle is a flange E, whic is adapted to be held against' the outer surface of the fence through which the end of the box is adapted to extend. "Projecting from the outer longitudinal side walls of the receptacle are the flanges G, which support thefalse bottom H, the ends of which false bottom are flanged, as at H. It will b'eaioted that a space intervenes between the false bottomand the inclined bottom of the receptacle,
and perforations I are formed in the side walls of the receptacle, through which air is allowed to circulate to ventilate the receptacle, and a transverse openin K is afforded at the lower end of the inc ined bottom,
whereby any drippings from the garbage may run down the inclined bottom and make exit outside the yard.- Said door E is held closed by means of the button N. 7
By the provision of the garbage apparatus embodying the featur of my invention itwill be observed that after the receptacle is adjustedwith one end xtending through an opemng 1n a fence the garbage may be emptied into the receptacle through the opening over which the lid C closes, and any liquids from which obnoxious odor may rise draining from the garbage will make exit down the inclined bottom instead of being retained, as is customary in the garbage-receptacle commonly used. The garbage is collected through the opening in the end of the receptacle, which end extends through an opening in the fence, thereby rendering it unnecessary for the collector to enter the yard in which the receptacle is contained.
What I claim as new is- 1. A garbage-receptacle provided with a hinged li i, one end of the receptacle having laterallyprojecting flanges adapted to 'be held against the face of a fence. in an openin in whichthe receptacle is desi ned to be fee held against the face of a fence, in an opening" in which the receptacle is designedto be held fa hingeddoor mounted at the flangedend of. the receptacle, bracketmembers fiixed IIO to the inner surfaces of the side walls of the receptacle, a tray supported "upon said. i bracket members and having angled endsl extending beyond the ends 01 the bracket members and adapted to bear againstthe g ends of the receptacle, the bottom (if the receptacle being inc-lined and terminating at i its lower end in an opening in the end of the g'
