Be it known that I, HENRY BATES, a sub ject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Homestead, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Valves, of which the following is a specification, reference the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to attachments for gasburners; and its object is to provide simple and effective means for turning a key of a gas-burner from a point distant from the burneras, for example, to permit the gasburner key to be turned to raise or lower the light by the occupant of a bed without aris The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and its novel features will be defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a gas-burner-bracket arm with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a bell-crank lever forming a part of the device and its supporting-band. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the clip employed detached from the burner-key.
The reference-numeral 1 designates the bracket-arm of a gas-burner, suitably secured to the wall 2 of'a room and provided with the usual turning-key 3. Upon the bracket 1 adjacent to the key is secured a split and hinged ring or'band 4, theends of which are bent at right angles and secured by a screw 5. To one side of the band 4 is pivotally secured a bell-crank lever 6, the short arm of which is connected to one end of a coil-spring 7, the opposite end of said spring being attached to the band 4. Below the ivotal point 8 of the bell-crank lever the liand 4 is provided with a lug 9, serving as a stop to limit the backward movement of the lever, and provided with an adjusting screw 9.
The reference-numeral 1O designates a U- shaped clip fitting upon thekey 3 and removably secured thereto by a set-screw 11. Anarm 12 projects from the upper end of one side of the clip 10, said arm being formed being had therein to with an elongated opening 13, through which the long arm 14 of the bell-crank lever ex-.

To the upper end. of the short arm of the bell-crank lever6is secured one end of a pullcord 15, said cord being guided through staples 16 or similar guides, so that its free end 17 will be suspended within easy reach of the occupant of a bed or to any desired point within the room where the gas-burner is located. A weighted handle 18 is secured to the free endof the pull-cord, as shown.
The utility and operation of the devices constructed as thus described will be readily understood. By pulling the cord 15 the bell-crank lever is tilted upon its pivotal support, and through the connection of the long arm 14 of said lever with the arm 12 of the clip 10 secured to the key said key will be turned. The coil-spring 7 serves to retract the bell-crank lever when the pull-cord is re leased. It will be apparent that thedevice provides a convenient means for turning the light in a room up or down at a distance from the burner in the manner already explained.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a gas-burner bracket and its key, of means for turning said key comprising a bell-crank lever pivotally supported upon said bracket, a clip secured to the key and provided with a projecting arm with which one arm of the bellcrank lever engages,and a pull-cord connected to the opposite arm of the lever.
2. The combination with a gas burner bracket, and its key, of means for turning said. key, comprising a split band secured to said bracket, a bell-crank lever pivotally secured to said band, a clip removably secured to the key, an arm projecting from said key and provided with an elongated opening through which one arm of the lever extends, a pull-cord. connected to the lever, and a retracting-spring one end of which is secured to one arm of the bell-crank lever, while its opposite end is secured to said band.
3. The combination with a gasburnerbracket arm and its key, of means for turning said key, comprising a split ring or band embracing said bracket-arm and provided with a stop-lug, a bell-crank lever pivotally secured at one side of said band, a coil-spring other arm of the IOC connecting the upper arm of the bell-crank and a depending weighted handle attached lever and said band, a clip detachably seto the free end of the cord. 1c cured to said key, and provided with an arm In testimony whereof I affix my signature having an elongated opening therein through 11 the presenceof two Witnesses.
