STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 20, 1913.
Application filed February 3, 1911. Serial No. 606,285.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Stoves, of'which the following is a specification. r g p My invention relates to improvements in stoves and the object of my invention is to provide a stove with a griddle which is secured to the stove in such a manner a to permit the griddle to swing over the burners in proper relation thereto, and when not in use, may be swung upward therefrom and held and locked in position at one side of the stove, permitting the burners to be used for other purposes.
A further object is to provide means for partly counter-balancing the griddle so that it will not fall with much force in case it should accidentally slip from the grasp of the operator in the act of lowering it into position, above the burners.
Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification, the figure discloses a gas stove having the usual top por tion A, and burners B-B, etc., located near .the surface thereof in the usual manner. The figure also discloses the usual bakeoven C, located at one side thereof. The griddle D is hinged at one end by means of a rod E to brackets F mounted on the top portion A, one of these brackets only is shown and it will be understood that another similar bracket is disposed on the other side of the stove top. A pin Gr extends from one end of the griddle to engage with a latch lock H as shown, which is hinged at one end to the top portion of the bracket K, and swings over the pin to hold the griddle from being accidentally dropped on to the topportion A. A cord or chain I is connected to the griddle at a point above the rod E and is washer and the under side of said top portion, so that when the griddle is lowered, the spring will be compressed by the upward movement of the cord, and the weight of the griddle thus counter-balanced. By reason of this construction the griddle after once being properly adjusted over the burners at the proper distance above same, may be quickly placed into and out of operating position without danger of breaking or being dropped on the floor, and serves as a very convenient attachment to a stove, especially in restaurants where a griddle is in almost daily use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new:
A stove having a top and a burner; a griddle hinged thereto at one side of the burner so that when lowered it will be in proper position relative to the burner to be heated thereby; a pulley wheel; a cord connected to said griddle and passing over said pulley wheel and through an opening formed in the stove top; and a spring the upper end of which abuts the under side of said stove top and the lower end of which is connected to said cord so that when the griddle is lowered the spring will be compressed to counterbalance the weight of the griddle. I
-Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York this 28th day of January A. D. 1911.
