IMPROVEMENT IN D0'OR-FAS'JIEINING-l AND The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent anni vmaking part of the samen To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known-that I, A. F. KITCHEN, of Shelton v Demain the district of Farmen, and sate of south- Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following -is a`full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make'and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which the figure is a detail view representin my improved fastening attached to a" door.
imilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My' invention has for its object to furnish animproved fastenig for the doors of corn-cribs, and other out-buildings, which shall be so constructed 'and arranged as to protect the said out-buildings from the depredations of thieves.
It consists in the construction and combination of the various parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the door of an out-building. B is the door-frame. Y 1(il s an ordinaryhasp, which is passed over the stap e Eis a plate or bar, hav-ing a plate, F, hinged or Apivoted to its lower end.
The plate F is made in parts hinged to each other, so that it may be folded together and passed through the staple D, so -far that it may be opened -out. The bar or plate E is then drawn up to the hasp 0,012 staf ple D.
To the upper end of the bar or plate E is attached a chain, G, passing over guide-pulleys H, and extendihg to the dwelling, where it is attached to 0r connected' with the end of a lever, I. The chain G, for a part of the distance, may, if desired, be replaced with a bar or rod.
The other end of the'lever'I is connected with the trigger of a gun or-pistol, J, andspring K, so that should a thief attempt to break into the out-buildings with which the fastening is connected, the gun may be discharged. I
If desired, the fastening's of the doors of several out-houses may all be connectedwith'the same chain or rod leading to the dwelling.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- .An-improved door-'fastening and alarm, formed by the combination of the hinged'plate F, bar or plate E, chainG, or equivalent, lever I, and spring K, with each other, and with the hasp O, attached to the doorframe B, and staple D attached to the door of the outhouse to be protected, and with the gun or pistol J, placed in the dwelling, substantially as herein shown andI described, and for the purpose set forth,
A. F. KITCHEN.
