J.' H. MILLER. RELEASING DEVICE POR DUMB WAITERS.
APPLICATION FILED 00T.20, 1906.
@Vi 1? aan es UNITED STATES JOHN H. MILLER, OF HAMBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
RELEASING DEVICE FOR DUNIB-WAITERS..
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1907.
Application ned octobe zo, 190e. serial No. 339.803.
T0 all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOI-IN H. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamburg, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Releasing Devices for Dumb-/Vaiters, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in releasing' devices for disappearing dumbwaiters ,and the present invention is intended more particularly as an improvement on Letters Patent N o. 880,910, issued to me under date oi September 1l, 1906.
In the device above referred to I employ a turn-button to serve as a retainer for the car, and the present device is intended to make the operation of releasing the car more simple and at the same time provide for greater strain than would be possible with the device shown in the above-noted patent.
My invention comprises a pivoted triggerarm pivoted on a hanger Weighted to keep it in normal position and provided with a re` leasing-rod to be operated by the foot.
The invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a sectional view of a floor, showing my device in position and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
The numeral l designates the floor. 2 is an opening therein, and 3 is a hanger secured to the under side of the floor, and to its lower end is pivoted loosely'the trigger. This trigger comprises an arm 4, having its lower end bent at an angle and carrying a weight 5 on its extremity. Its upper end is formed with a catch 6. It is pivoted to the hanger 3 at about midway of its length. To the lower end of the arm I secure an angled bar 7, which bar is perforated at its extremity.
The numeral 8 designates the releasing-rod, This rod has a suitable head 9, which extends but slightly above the Hoor-line, and its lower end is provided with a series of perforations 10, by means of which it may be adjustably secured to the end of the bar 7.
The car is indicated in Fig. l by dotted lines and in Fig. 2 by full lines, and it is formed with a hook 11 at about the center and near its top. This hook is adapted to engage the catch 6 of the trigger-arm. When the car is lowered, as shown in Fig. 1, the trigger is in normal engagement with said hook.
When it is desired to release the car, pressure is put on the button 9 and the releasingrod moves the trigger-arm on its pivotal connection, raising the weight and releasing the catch 6 from its hold in the hook 11. As the car is provided with suitable lifting-weights, (not shown,) the car will rise when so released. When the car is returned to its normal lowered position, the catch 6 Will snap into the hook 11, where it will be held by the weight 5, and the car will be securely retained until again released.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- In a device of the character described, a hanger, a trigger-arm pivotally mounted at approximately its center to said hanger, a catch formed on the upper end of said arm, a weight Jformed on its lowered angled end, an angled bar secured to said lower end and a releasing-rod adjustably secured to said bar, said rod having a head on its upper end adapted to be operated by the foot in combination with a vertically-movable car having a projecting hook near its top adapted to engage said catch, all substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN H. MILLER.
Witnesses:
WILLIAM F. SEAMAN, WILLIAM A. B. KETNER.
