To all whom it may conce'm.: l Be it known thatwe, ROBERT CUSHMAN, of Pawtucket, and J ORN R. DENNIS, of Central Falls, in the county of Providence, and State ofRhode Island, have invented a new and improved Paper-Smoothener; and we do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication;

This invention relates to a new instinmentfor closing the pores of paper after the same have been -opened by an eraser, so that the ink may not run on such parts of the paper where erasures have been made.

When the bag, after a piece of writing has been erased, is drawn over the erased portion, so much of the powder is discharged from the bag, that the pores oi' the paper will, by the powder, be closed, so
that subsequent writing will appear clear and clean ony the erased portion.
