To all whom it may concern:

Be it knownthat I, MAeNUs NInLL, a subject of the King of Sweden, and a resident of thecity of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Card-Case, of which th efollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to card-cases adapted to: hold business or personal cards, and has for its object to provide a case adapted to hold such cards, to keep them in a service able condition, and to enable one card to be withdrawn from the case without handling the remaining cards therein. This I accomplish. by the means illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a case embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1' of one of the members of the case, showing the operating mechanism connected therewith. As illustrated in the drawings, the body of the case is comprised of the

members

1 and 2, hinged together at their ends by means of hinge-pins 16. The member 1 constitutes the'boX portion of the case, and to that end it is provided with longitudinal flanges 1 and an end flange 1". I prefer to form similar longitudinal flanges 2 on the member 2, adapted to overlap and interlock with the corresponding flanges 1, formed on theopposite member. Acap 3 is hinged to themember 1 by means of a hinge-pin 4 and is provided with longitudinal flanges 3 connected by transverse flanges 3" on the cap 3. A lever 13 is rigidly secured at one end to the cap 3 and is pivoted at its opposite end to a link 1 4 by means of apin 13 The opposite end of the link 14 is pivoted to a slide 1.0 by means of apin 14. The slide 10 is'pro vid ed with a lip 1 1 having an offset end 1 1 A block 12 is secured to the upper end of the member 1,which serves as a stop to limit the upward movement of the slide 10 in the member 1 and also serves as a spacing-block to support a shield 5, which is secured at its upper end to such spacingblock by means of a stud-screw 5 engaging a threaded aperture 12, formed in the block 12. By means of such construction the oflset end of the lip 1'1,formed' on the slide 1 0 is permitted to pass beyond the ends of the" cards inserted in the case, and to bear against the edge of the card nearest to the shield 5:. The opposite member 2 ot the case is provided with a series of springs 7,. 8, and 9, arranged in lines extending transversely of such member. The members ofthe lower series 7 bear against the lower ends of the cards inclosed in the case and press the ends of all of said cards against the shieldt5 of the opposite member of the case, so as to bring the lower end of the inner card in close contact with the shield 5, and thereby enable the oflset end 11 of the lip 11' to bear against the end of said card and carry it along the shield 55. The central series of springs bear against the central portion of the cards placed within the member 1 and against the- IOK lower end of the inner card of the pack when such card'has-beenpartially withdrawn from the case by the lip 11, and thereby hold such end of the card in engagement with the lip when the lip 11 is arranged at the'upper end of the slot 5 formed in the shield 5. upper series of springs 9 bear against the upper or outer ends of the cards in the case and aid in pressing the cards evenly against the shield 5 over the entire surface of the package of cards contained in the case. The springs 7, 8, and 9 are preferably formed integral with each other on the blank 6. The outer end 6 of the central portion of such blank isoffset and adapted to bear against the shield 5 of the opposite member of the case. This end 6 of the blank is free from the surface of the member 2, so as to give a spring effect to such outer end of the blank. The outer extremity of the lip 6 is preferably turned outward, so as to be readily sprung backward by the inner card of the pack as it is being withdrawn from the case by means of the slide 10 and the lip 11 formed thereon. The cards to be used, are inserted in the box member 1 of the case and V the two members of the case are then brought together and the cap 3 closed over the ends of both members, forming a convenient and useful package for the cards. When it is desired to remove one card from the case, the cap is opened and the slide 10 moved lengthwise of the case by means of the levers 18 and 14, connected with the cap, carrying with it the inner card of the pack by means of the offset end 11 of the lip 11, which always overlaps the lower end of the inner card in the case. After the card has been removed from the case the cap is closed and the slide 10 moved along the case until the offset end 11 of the lip 11 again descends below the ends the cards of the case and overlaps the lower end of the card adjacent to the shield 5.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A card-case comprising two members hinged together, and provided with interlocking flanges, 'a series of springs and a spring-lip secured to one member and ad apted to bear against the face of the opposite member, a shield member and provided with a longitudinal slot, a cover hinged to one of said sections, and a slide pivotally connected to said cover and provided with a lip adapted to engage the slot of said shield.

2. A card-case comprising two membershinged together and provided with longitudinal interlocking flanges, a slide provided with a lip having an offset end, a cover hinged to one of said sections and provided with an arm fixedly secured thereto, a link pivoted to said arm and slide, a spacing-block secured to the inside of one member, and a shield bearing against said spacing-block and pro vided with a longitudinal slot adapted to receive the lip of said slide.

3. A card-case comprising two members provided with longitudinal side flanges adaptconnected to the opposite ed to interlock with each other, a slide provided with a lip having an offset end mounted on one of said sections, a cover hinged to one of said sections and provided with an arm rigidly secured thereto, a link pivotally connected with said arm and said slide, a shield spaced from one of said sections and provided with a longitudinal slot adapted to receive the lip of said slide, and provided also with an offset upper end adapted to close the space between said shield and section.

4. A card-case comprising two members hinged together and provided with interlocking longitudinal flanges, a cover hinged to one of said members provided with an arm fixedly secured thereto, a slide mounted upon one of said members and provided with a lip having an offset end, a link pivotally connected with said arm and slide, a shield adapted to cover said slide, link and arm, and provided with a longitudinal slot adapted to receive the ends of said lip, a series of springs secured to the opposite member, and a spring-lip having an offset end adapted to bear at its edge against said shield when the case is closed.

5. A card-case comprising two members hinged together, and provided with interlocking lateral flanges, a spacing-block secured to the upper end of one member, a slide secured to said member below said spacing-block, and provided with a lip having an offset end, a cover hinged to the section sup.- porting said slide, and provided with an arm rigidly secured thereto, a link pivoted to said .arm and slide, and a shield supported upon said spacing-block and provided with an offset upper end adapted to bear against the inner face of one of said members.

6. A card-case comprising two members hinged together, and provided with interlocking flanges, a cover hinged to one of said members and provided with an arm fixedly attached thereto, a slide provided with a lip having an offset end, a link pivotally connected with said arm and slide, a spacingblock adapted to serve as a stop secured to one of said members above said slide, a shield supported upon said spacing-block and provided with a slot adapted to receive the lip of said slide, spacing-blocks secured to the inner end of one of said members outside of said shield on the opposite side of said slot, and a retaining-lip secured to the opposite member and adapted to bear against the face of said shield when the case is closed.
