Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 22, 1907.
Application filed September 23,1905. Serial-No. 279,845-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M. J osr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Extension-Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to tables, and especially to a form of table adapted to be varied in size by extending its top.
Prominent objects of the invention are to provide a simple, practical, and inexpensive form of construction for supporting the table-top relatively to the table-body.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-section of a portion of a table embodying my present invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the same with the top removed. Figs. 3, i, and 5 are views of details of construction.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown a portion of a table having a central supporting-column 1 and a top 2, which column and the top are made of separableparts, so that they can be drawn from one another to en- The column 1 is split vertically into'semicylindrical halves, and the top 2 is split crosswise along the line 3. The top 2 is provided with the usual guide-bars 4 4 to guide the separable parts of the top 1. when moved relatively to one another, and one pair of these guide-bars is provided with a central leg 5 in the usual manner.
As an arrangement for supporting the top 2 upon the column 1 and securing the same thereto I provide a set of brackets 6 6, desirably four in number, made with vertical portions, which are secured to the interior of the column 1, and also with horizontal arms 7 7, which are secured to the under side of the table-top 2. The brackets 6 6 are provided with shoulders 8 8, which engage the top of the column 2, and thereby form a firm and secure support for the tabletop.
having horizontal portions The design of the brackets can be of any suitable design, that shown being a simple rectangular form of bracket with transversely-disposed arms.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a pedestal extension-table, the combination with the separable members of the table-top and the separable pedestal members pertaining thereto, respectively; of brackets having vertical portions which extend down within said pedestal-sections and are secured. to the interior thereof, and also which extend along and are secured to the under surfaces of the respective top sections, and means on said brackets and engaging said pedestalsections for spacing the top sections above the top of the pedestal-sections.
2. In a pedestal extension-table, the combination with the separable members of the table-top and the separable pedestal members pertaining thereto, respectively; of brackets having vertical portions which ex.- tend down within said pedestal-sections and are secured to the interior thereof, and also having horizontal portions which extend along and are secured to the under surfaces of the respective top sections, and projections 8 projecting laterally from the vertical portions of said brackets for engaging said pedestal-sections for spacing the top sections above the top of the pedestal-sections.
3. A bracket for extension-tables, consisting of horizontal and vertical arms 7 and 6, connected together whereof the vertical arm 6 is provided with a projection 8 located be low the arm 7 and adapted to engage the top of a table-pedestal.
In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 21st day of September, A. I). 1905.
WILLIAM M. JOST.
