FUTURE-SALES RECORD-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented Jan. 8, 1907.
Application filed January 22. 1906. Serial No. 297.172. I
To all, whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, EDWARD B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Future-Sales Record- Books, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in future-sales record-books; and the object of the invention is the improvement of the construction of a record-book whereby the entry of a customers name upon one line will be sufficient for the recording of a number of sales made to the same customer upon a plurality of sheets.
With this and other objects in view the invention consists in certain other novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed .out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the open book, with one set of short or auxiliary leaves folded over upon the right side of the book, while Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the set of short leaves folded upon the left side of the book. Fig. 3 is an end view.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the back or cover of a book. 2 and 3 are primary or long sheets. A central or intermediate long sheet 4 is secured to the back 1, and upon each side of said central sheet 4 sets of short sheets 5 and 6 are positioned.
In'Fig. l the long sheet 2 is folded upon the left-hand side of the book, while the set of short sheets 5 are folded over upon the right-hand side of the book and against the middle long sheet 4. Each short or auxiliary sheet 5 is indexed, as at 7. Each of the long and short sheets 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 is ruled horizontally for dividing the sheet into horizontal spaces 8: These spaces 8 are designated by numerals, as at 9 10 11, and in each of the spaces 9 the name of the customer is written. The writing of the customers name in one of the spaces 9 will be suflicient for recording the sales not only upon the same sheet 2, but upon all of the short sheets 5, which are between the long sheets 2 and 4.
The sheet 2 is divided by vertical lines 12, preferably into two columns 13 13. Each one of these columns is also divided by a line 14. The spaces 8, formed by the ruled lines 15, are again divided horizontally between each two lines 12 and 14 by a short line 16. This horizontal line 16 divides each space 8 into space 17 in which the date of the sale is entered, and into space 18, in which. the selling price of the article is record ed. Between lines 14 and 12 the space 8 is of the same width as the space wherein the customers name is written. This space is designated by Qnty, Fig. 1, in which the quantity or the number of articles sold is recorded. The same ruling and dividing of the space 8 is made upon the sheet 2 between the next two vertical lines 12 12. In the present instance I have preferably shown only two columns 13 13, formed upon the primary sheet 2. Each column 13 is therefore provided adjoining the space in which. the name of the customer is written with parallel spaces for date of sale and price of article and a comparatively large space which is equal in width to the date and price spaces for recording the number of articles sold.
The sets of short leaves 5 and 6 are provided with the number-column 10 and 11, which corresponds with the similar column 9. If, for instance, the name Roe is written in the first space, (designated by numeral 1 on Sheet 2,) the numeral 1 on the set of short sheets 5 will indicate that the same space contains also the recorded data of the sales to the party named Roe. If it is desired, the names that are written upon Sheet 2 may also be carried out on the same horizontal line 15 throughout the entire book, although, of course, when all of the short sheets 5 have been written upon and it isdesired to begin. on the middle sheet 4, as this sheet is similarly constructed to Sheet 2, the names will have to be rewritten, as in the first instance, especially if the names of new customers are to be written in the book.
Each of the short leaves is divided into columns 13 by the vertical lines 12, and each column is subdivided horizontally into spaces 17 and 18 for recording the date of the sale and the price of the article, and a space is also formed for recording the number of articles sold in each instance.
' I have constructed a record-book which is preferably divided into sets of short leaves or sheets, and each set of short leaves or sheets is separated, preferably, by a long or primary leaf or sheet 4. Of course it will be obvious that any number of long and short leaves may be employed; but each sheet must be divided by horizontal and vertical lines into combination Witha cover, of a plurality of spaces 8, which spaces are further divided by, I said long and short sheets for producing hori- 15 additional vertical and horizontallinesinto zontaL-spaces, said names being ositioned smaller spaces, as hereinbefore described, for on said horizontal lines, each orizontal facilitating the recording of sales. space being subdivided by transverse ruled What I claim is lines into a plurality of comparatively small In a device of the character described, the spaces and each of said comparatively small 20 s aces being subdivided by vertical'lines and sli-orthorizontal lines.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of twosubscribing witnesses.
