Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. VIsGEE, of the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Head-Rests ior Beds, oi which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in head-rests for beds; and its object is to provide a simpl which may be adjusted to suit the convenience of the occupant of the bed.
A yfurther lObjectis to provide a head-rest having itsadjusting means out o' the reach of the patient, thereby adapting it for hospital use.
To accom lish these objects,.I provide a pair of brackets adapted to be clamped-or otherwise secured to the side rails of a bed. The side bars of the head-rest are pivoted to these brackets and provided on their lower ends with pivoted blocks, which are adapted to coact with a pair oi threadedrods revolubly mounted in pivoted thrust-blocks attached to the'brackets. Each ofthe threaded rods carries a grooved wheel, said wheels being connected by a tight chain or belt.

The operation of the device consists in pulling on the cord 12, which rotates the threaded rods 10 by means of the pulleys 11. The advantages of this device are numerous. The head-rest is particularly adapted for hospital use, since the adjusting means is located under the bed out of the reach of a patient. A further advantage is that both sides of the head-rest are always at the same degree oi elevation and always positively locked there, thus preventing twisting or sagging of one side. A still further advantage is that the parts are iew and simple in construction and that no springs are employed, thus minimizing the liability of breakage.
Having thus described my invention so f that the same may be readily understood by those skilled in they art -to whichit appertains, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a head-rest for beds, a pair oi brackets fixed to the side rails of the bed, a pair of side members pivoted to said bracketathrustblocks pivoted to said brackets, pivoted blocks on the lower extremities of said side members, mounted in said thrust-blocks and coacting with said pivoted blocks.
2.-In a device of the class described, the combination with the side rails oa bed of a pair of brackets fixed thereto, a pair of side to said brackets, pivoted thrust-blocks on said brackets, pivoted blocks von the lower extremities oi said side memloi transverse members connecting said side and threaded rods revolubly members, thrust-blocks pivoted to said brackets, pivoted blockson the lower extremities j side members, threaded rods revolubly mounted in said thrust-blocks and coactingwith said pivoted blocks, pulleys fixed to said rods adjacent the thrust-blocks, and an endless belt connecting said pulleys.
