. of the Empire of Germany, residing at Elberfeld, in the Empire of Germany, have inver-1ted a new and useful rIoy, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a figure-for example, representing an animal-#which is adapted to be moved upward on an inclined' plank by repeatedly drawing a string attached to its hind legs. clined planks may form a racinggame.

I will now proceed to describe my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figurel` is an elevation of an inclined plank and a ligure in its normal position, partly in section. Fig. 2 is -a similar view and represents the lfigure after its hind legs, under the action ofthe drawn string, have moved forward and'engaged in the next following indent of the plank. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through the same, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of..a racing game.

The toy consists in a figure, which ma represent an animal, in-this case a pig Z), and is provided with fast fore legs g and movable hind legs a. It is adapted to climb or run on an inclined plank h, provided with indents i t'. The body of the figure is provided with a deep cavity ZC, in which a two-armed lever Z is mounted to rock on a pin c or pins c c. The upper arm of the lever Z is connected with the front inside of the cavityk by means of a helip cal spring f, which normally holds the lever Z in the position shown at Fig. 1. The lower arm of the lever Z is to represent the hind legs a a of the figure, and a string d is attached to this lower arm at m. This string (Z passes from the hind legs a a forward to the front inside of the cavity 7c, then through an eye e rearward between the two hind legs a a.

The toy is operated as follows: The string cZ is seized with ones fingers andplaced rearward, and the pig b is put `on the plank h at its lower end, s o that its hind legs a a engage in the irst indent i close to the edge of the plank h. the helical spring j' will be strained, as isshown at Fig. 2. On the string d being released the spring f will draw the upper arm of the lever Z forward, so that it will cause the fore legs g to move forward and to engage in the next following indent i, since the hind legs a afare checked by the respective indent i. In this manner the figure b can be moved upward on the plank h by repeatedly drawing Athe string d.

Several toys and inclined planks may be combined to form a convenient racing game, as is illustrated, for example, at Fig. 4.

The toy described may be varied in many respects without departing from the spirit of my invention. It may represent any other animal or a human` 'being on the inclined plank. The spring'f may be arranged to act What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A toy of the class described, comprising an inclined plank with indents, and a figure ofsuitable design climbing on said plank, it having fast fore legs, whichengage in any indent, and movable hind legs, which engage in any other indent, a spring having one end connected to the figure and its other end to the hind legsfor moving the hind legs rearward and a string attached to the hind legs and passing forward to an eye at the figure,

and thence rearward and being adapted to move the fore legs forward into the next indent while straining said spring.

2.
