To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VAN B. NEAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Desoto, in the county of Brown and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Calculating Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention contemplates means whereby a Storekeeper may calculate without the necessity of arithmetical computations the price of any measured amount of vendable commodities sold. For instance, it is well known that under the resent general practice if a storekee er sells a certain number of pounds of goo dozens or other numbers of articles, yards or other linear measures of dry goods or the like, or gallons of liquids it is necessary for him to figure with his penoil and pad the sellin price of the quantity or amount sold on a dozen, 8pc. 1 Y

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face view of one embodiment of my invention. Each pointer 8 is rovided with two heads, the fingers8 of which are preferably ri idly secured together and are preferably on ored difl'erentl so as to have a contrasted appearance, so it at they may be readily distinguished. The disks 5 are provided, pre ierably, on their rims with a circumferentially-extending series of numbers indicating the difl'erent quantities of goodsas, for instance, l 2 3 4 &c. referrin to eitherpounds, yards, gallons, or the dike or dozens -or single articles. The said disks also 'contain Within their margins a plurality of numbers arrived at by predetermined calcula- V tions-of thevarious prices cfthe articles-and the various quantitiesto be-sold.

In the practical-operation of the device l will'forthepurpose of description give a simle illustration of how the deviceworks. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as-new is l. A device of the character described, comprising-a support providedwith an'ed opening-slot and aside-opening slot com nicating" therewith and 58180 i provided with a longitudinal guideway adjacent said sideopening slot, andrevoluble calculating-disks entered in said edge slot and mounted -to turn with-its face showing throughsaid sideopening slot and said' face contalning-calcu lations, aprice-p'late detachably and adjustably secured ad acent 0ne=edge of said-sideopening slot andcontaining figures denoting the different-selling prices ofcommodities by the pound,-or gallon-ortheilike, and-a pointer adjustably mounted in said guideway and the side-o em'ng slot I provided with two fingers designed to point .respectivelyto a num er on the price-plate and a predetermined number on said disk.

A device of the character described comprising a support, and revoluble disks mounted on said sup ort and provided with calculations on one ice, the support being provided with a guideway, a price-plate secured to said support and a pointer mounted in said guideway and provided with two fingers one of-which is designed to point to said price-plate and the other to the calculations on'said disks.

A device of the character described comprising a support havin an edge-opening slot and a side-o ening s 0t and a guideway adjacent the atter, and calculatingdisks entered in said edge-opening slot with one face appearing through the side opening slot and-revolubly mounted'in said support, means for turningsa'iddisk-to lldlddt-lndifferent adjusted positions, a=priceplate*-provided at each-end witha =longitudinal slot and a set-screwworking through said slot into said support whereby the .price-plate may be adjustably anddetachably-connectcd to the support, and a pointer-provided With I a set-screw working 11i said guideway and provided with two fingersone I of which is designed to point to different nunibers on the'price plate and the-other of -which-is-designed'to:point to calculations on'the-diskr 4.
