FREDERICK LORENZO HUNT, OFASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA.
TOOL FOR HANDLING ARTIFICIAL TEETH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 11, 1906.
Application filed October 18. 1906. Serial No. 339.544.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDEmcx LORENZO HUNT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Asheville, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Handling Artificial Teeth, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in what may be termed dentists tools. its object is to provide for readily and effectively holding dental or artificial teeth, more particularly when grinding the effective edges thereon, and to accomplish that end in a simple and expeditious manner.
Said invention consists of certain structural features or instrumentalities substan tially as hereinafter fully disclosed, and specifically pointed out by the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure l is a perspective view showing the invention or tool as applied for practical use. Fig. 2 is a similar view out of use. Figs. 3 and 4 are disassembled perspective views of the component parts or handled jaw members thereof.
In carrying out myinvention I form the tool or device of two handled jaw members 1 2, which are articulated or pivoted together, the same crossing each other in vertical lines, with their uniting pivot 3 inserted or passing horizontally through their shank portions at the points of crossing. Each jaw member has its handle or finger-engaged portion formed, preferably, of a flat disk-like plate 4 4, suitably soldered or brazed to the shank portions thereof to furnish an extended and convenient area of grasping or contacting surface for the fingers for facility of actuation in using the tool.
One jaw member has a forward end frame or bail-like terminal 5 fixed thereto, preferably rectangular in outline for effectively engaging and receiving within it the usual anchoring-pins 6 of artificial or plate teeth, and which frame or bail-like portion or terminal also serves to grasp or engage the tooth itself,
as shown. The other jaw member is adapted to engage or grasp the opposite surface of the tooth with its forward end or edge extending to a point about opposite the middle of the bail-like portion or terminal for their effective conjoint gripping action, as will be readily appreciated.
It is noted that said tool or device is exceedingly simple and as effective as simple in its gripping action for the intended purposei. 6., for holding an artificial tooth when it may be desired to grind the effective edge thereon or grind its opposite endwhile it may be constructed at nominal expense and may be actuated with facility and expedition.
I claim A tool of the character described, comprising pivoted-together handled jaw members, one having a bail-like forward end terminal, and the other jaw having its forward end terminal extending to a point opposite the middle of said bail-like terminal, said jaw members also having their handled portions provided with finger-engaged disk or plate portions.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK LORENZO HUNT.
