WILLIAM STUBMA, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA. BEATER. MHXER, ANDMASHER FOR EGGSQCBEAM, VEGETABLE-:5, ac.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 4, 1.906.
To all; whom it rmzy concern: 4
Be it known that I, WILLIAM STURMA, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Beater, Mixer, and Masher for Eggs, Cream, Vegetables, &c., of which=the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a beater, mixer, and masher for eggs, cream, vegetables, &c., the same embodying novel means for firmly holding the wires composing the body of the beater, &c., on the head thereof and readily permitting the removal of the wires when so required and replacing the same.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a beater, &c.,'embodyin my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitu ina section of a portion thereof. Fig. 3 represents a top or plan view thereof, omitting the body-wires. Fig. 4 represents a diametric section of a detached portion. Fig. 5 represents a side e'levatioh of a detached portion.
Similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the body of a beater, &c., the same being constructed of ieces A, of wire, suitably bent into loop orm, which are adapted to whip or beat articles, such as eggs, &c. B desi nates a collar which is located around the Free end portions of said wires'and having on its interior wall the longitudinally-extending grooves pr recesses C and the transverselyextending. openings D, it being noticed that said wall is of tapering or conical form.
E designates a tapering or conical plug which is of rigid construction and adapted to enter the collar B, which, with said collar B, forms the head of the beater, &c., said lug being connected with the shankl by w ich the beater,- &c., may be mounted on a suitable frame and receive rotary motion or power in an Y suitable manner, it being noticed that t -e eixterior wall of said lug is formed with grooves or recesses G, which are adapted to register with the grooves or recesses C on the collar B.
The portion of the shank F which is adjacent to its place of connection'with the plug -E has screw-threads H thereon, the same being adapted to be engaged by the nut J, which is fitted over said shank F and is adapt ed to draw the plug into the collar and tighten the same in position by wedging as tron.
The free ends ofthe wires of the body A. are bent outwardly, forming lips K, which are adapted to enter the openings.D inthe collar B, while the portions of the wires ad jacent said lips are adapted to entersthe grooves C G of the collar and plug, it being evident that said portions are tightly embraced by the wallsof said collar and plug, and consequently are firmly bound by the same, and as the lies K occupy the openings E and are contro led against inward displacement by the pressure of the plug at the angles or bends of said lips it'is evident that the wires? are reliabl connected with the head and prevented om being drawn out from the same. V
Should a wire be broken or fractured and it is desired to remove the same, the nut J is unscrewed, whereby the lug and collarmay be separated one from 51 wire may be pressed in in such manner as to cause its lip to emerge from the opening D which it occupies, the adjacent ortion of the wire then bein removed from t e grooves or recesses C G, the effect of which is evident- If desired, all the wires may be removed in a similar manner and re laced by new wires.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a heater of the character stated, a collar having its interior wall tapering and openings in the said walls, a rigid plug of taering form adapted tOlGIltGI said collar, a
ody formed of wire, members 1mm portions interposed between said collar and piug, a shank rigidly connected with said plug,
e other, when the l said shank having a screw-thread thereon and a nut encircling said shank and engagin saidthread and rotatably seated on said collar.
2. In a beater, &c., a body-com osed of wires, the ends of which are provi ed with outwardly-turned lips, a collar having openings on its inner surface adapted to receive said lips, a plug adapted to enter said collar and control said lips in said openings, and a nut adapted to be screwed on the shank of said head. and to be rotatably seated on and directly tightened a ainst said collhr and iorcibly press said p ug in position in said collar, portions of said wires being 1nterposed between said collar and head.
3. In a beater, &c., a body composed of wires, the ends of which are provided with outwardly-turned lips, a collar having open- "s on. inner surfaces adapted to receive 1' plug adapted to'ensez saidmollsr i I con rel said lipsin said openings and a &5 earl- "ig-o-be screwed on the shank of I said lGiMl and to be rota-t'sllly seated on and l i 11111 60 2 tighsenegl s sinst said collar and y press said plug in position in said caller, portions of said Wiles Ge-in int-61" yosed between said collar and the plug, the eolili iious 0? sa'ikl dollar and plug mg t'lleiein registerin grooves in which o'veszhsreim'ive portions of the wires are l ke ends or which are provided with ing openin s on its inner surfaces adapted to receive sai lips, splug adapted to enter said collar and control said lips in said openings ina shank ll i dly connected with sand plug and passin t hrou h said collar, and a nut adapted to efitte on the shank of said head 'and' rot'st'ably seated directly on and tightenecl against said collar and forcibly press said plug in position in said collar, portions ofsaid wires being interposed between said collar and plug.
