SYLVIA P. QUIGLEY, OF OVID CENTER, NEW YORK.
SKIRT AND WAIST FASTENER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 4, 1906.
Application filed April 13, 1906. Serial No. 311,561.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYLVIA P. QUIGLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ovid Center, in the county of Seneca, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt and IVaist Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garment-fasten ers; and the object thereof is to provide a simple and effective device which may be attached to the waistband of a skirt and connected to a shirt-waist to prevent the former from sagging down and the latter from rising or slipping.
The device is also adapted to retain a belt in place and likewise prevent the same from riding up beyond the waistband of the skirt.
The invention will be readily understood from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in 'which Figure 1 is a rear view of a portion of a skirt and waist connected by a fastener con structed in accordance with this invention and showing also a belt held in place by the fastener. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastener.
The same numerals refer to corresponding parts in both views.
Referring to the drawings, the fastener will be seen to consist of a single piece of wire bent upon itself to form the rear member 5 and the front member 6. The former may be regarded as comprising the vertical extensions 7 7, bent at their lower end to form the loop button-catches 8, connected by the intermediate portion 9, which is bent upwardly to form the upper or oppositely-facing loop button-catch 10.
The front member 6 in like manner consists of the pair of depending vertical extensions 11, connected by the cross-wire 12, the upper ends of extensions 7 being bent downwardly to form the extensions of the front member.
In use the catches 8 8 of the rear member are slipped around a pair of buttons 13 on the waistband of the skirt, while the upper catch 10 in like manner embraces and is held by a button 14 onthe shirt-waist. Owing to the fact that catch 10 extends upwardly While catches 8 extend downwardly, it will be apparent that the tendency of the skirt to sag and that the waist to ride up will each equalize the other and both accordingly be held in place. The belt 15, which is held in place in the space between the front and rear members, will likewise be prevented from any upward movement owing to the closed structure or loops formed at the upper ends and connecting said members.
The device may be made of gold, silver, or plated wire, as desired.
What is claimed is A garment-fastener consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form a rear member and a front member, said rear member comprising a pair of vertical extensions, each bent at its lower end to form a loop button-catch and an intermediate portion connecting said button-catches and bent upwardly to form an oppositely-facing loop button-catch, and said front member comprising a pair of depending vertical extensions forming a continuation of the corresponding extensions of the rear member and connected at their lower ends by a cross-wire, the space be tween said members acting as a belt-retainer.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
