To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs W. HANSEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Princeton, in the county of Gibson and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety J ewelry-Catches, of which the following is a' specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in jewelry-catches.
It is an object of this invention to provide a novel device of this character which is made from a single blank.
It is a further object of the invention to produce a device of the character noted which will possess advantages in points ofsimplicity, efiiciency, and durability, proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail-reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote like and cor responding parts in the several views, in which Figure 1 is a view of a blank cut from which the device is made. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the catch applied. Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of the catch.
In the drawings, B indicates a blank of suitable metal, having at one end the parallel cuts 0, which divide the blank into the three portionsE,A, andE. In applying the device the portions E are soldered or otherwise secured to a piece of jewelry, while the solid portion of the blank is bent to form an approximately circular keeper for the fastening-pin C. The portion A is left free and is bent upward toward the end of the keeper and is normally positioned therefrom at a distance less than the diameter of the pin, and in order to apply the pin within the keeper or extract it therefrom this portion A must be depressed. It is to be understood, of course, that the portion or tongue A is resilient.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A keeper formed of a single blank, said blank having one end slotted to form sections, one of said sections being curved, the opposite end portion of the blank being curved upon itself and terminating above the curved section of the blank.
