SAMUEL I-I. VINSON, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TO LEWIS I-I. VINSON, OF SAME PLACE.
DRIVE-CHAIN LINK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,612, dated December 22, 18911.
Application filed March 20, 1891. Serial No. 385,742. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL H. VINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Drive-Chains; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap- [o pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon,whicl1 form a part of this specification. My invention relates to improvements in drive-chains, the features of which will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to construct a drive-chain from blanks out out of sheet metal, and after forming said blanks one is interlocked with its fellow in the formation of a chain. The construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is aview of the blank as cut from a sheet of metal. Fig. II is a side view of two 2 5 links as united in the formation of a chain.
Like letters and numerals designate like 1 parts in the two views.
The blank A is cut out of sheet metal, having parallel sides forming the body, a central 3b portion 2, bent into a circular form, square orifices 4: and 5, and the ends 1 and 3, bent in the form of a hook and adapted to enter the orifice of a like link and embrace said circular part.
B, Fig. 2, illustrates the link as formed from the blank, the circular end 2, and on the other end the hook of parts 1 and 3. The fellow link O, identical in formation, is placed in the position O (indicated by dotted lines) and is pressed within the hook of the former until the hook and central orifice are coincident, and then by turning to the right the links are securely interlocked, and thereby forming a drive-chain.
Having fully described my inventiomwhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A drive-chain link formed from a blank of sheet metal, having a central rib, an opening on each side of the central rib, and ends of less width than the body of the blank, said link comprising acylindrical end formed from the central rib of the blank bent upon itself,
a body portion having a central opening, and ahook formed by the ends of the blank curved in the same direction, substantially as described. V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL H. VINSON.
