UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CAST-OFF HOOK Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 13, 1906.
Application filed June 7,1905- Serial No. 264,174.
1'0 (1,64 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH F. BARTEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cast-OE Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This cast-off hook is simple and cheap to manufacture, and by the use of this device a suspender and its end can be readily attached or detached.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face view of a cast-off hook embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section along as ac, Fig. 2'. Fig. 4 is a view of a blank or of the cast-off hook in fiat condition or before being bent.
In the drawings is shown a cast-off hook formed from a blank or piece of sheet or flat metal and comprising a body at, having a web or strap attaching slot 1) and a tongue a The body or shank a is open, as seen at c. This opening 0 can be any suitable shape. A circular hole has been found to give satisfaction. The tongue a is bent to hook shape, and its free end is bent to or in proximity with the plane of the shank a. Thefree end of the hook faces opening a. This opening is extended laterally each side of the hook such a distance that a suspender-end can be easily engaged to or disengaged from the hook. The bight of the Suspender-end being extended into opening 0 is readily hooked to the device or readily cast off.
The inwardly-bent free or point part of the hook prevents accidental disengagement of the suspender-end. The hook can be arcshaped to give a seat for the suspender-end corresponding to the curvature of the latter, so as to avoid chafing or cutting.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cast-off hook consisting of a body portion having a circular opening, said cast-off further comprising a lower portion gradually curving outward, upward and inward toward the circular opening and with its free end positioned in proximity with respect to the plane of the outer face of the body portion so as to form a guard against accidental disengagement of a sus ender-strap, the said lower portion being are ed so as to correspond with the curve of that portion of a suspender-strap adapted to be seated in the outwardly-curved part of said lower portion, thereby offering a smooth friction-reducing surface for that portion of the strap which slides over said outwardly-curved portion, said cast-off further provided with an upper portion having an elongated slot for attaching the web thereto, said slot of greater length than the diameter of the opening.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, RUDOLPH F. BARTEL.
