Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
J'NO. C. FLETCHER, OF SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, CLARK COUNTY, OHIO.
LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 834, datedJuly 12, 1838'.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. FLETCHER,
of the township of Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement on my Former Improved Lamp, called Fletchers Improved Double-Reflecting Lamp.
The nature of my invention or improvement consists in a fountain or reservoir placed immediately above the burners, with a chimney or glass tube passing through the center of the fountain or reservoir, with a conductor passing from the said fountain or reservoir to a receptacle at the bottom of the lamp, which fountain or reservoir is used for the purposes of supplying the receptacles at the bottom of the lamp as fast as the oil is consumed by burning. The fountain or reservoir being placed at the top of the lamp the heat from the chimney will pass through the center of the fountain or reservoir and keep the oil in a liquid state, so that almost any kind of oil may be used, and the light will be kept up as long as there remains any oil in the fountain or reservoir without any attentionrThe lamp is in every respect like myvformer lamp with the exception of the chains and the fountain and conductor as above described. One or two conductors may be used as may be found,
most convenient and are used not only for the purpose of conveying the oil from the fountain or reservoir to the receptacle at the bottom of the lamp, but as a support to the fountain or reservoir. the bottom of the tubes or conductors used for the purpose of shutting off the oil while scribed. I
JOHN C. FLETCHER.
