Be it known' that I, NIooLAUs KAUTEN, a` subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Chicago, in the county of Oook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Re fillable Bottles, of` which the following is a specification.. n
lMy invention relates to non-refillable bottles and the object of my invention is to provide a bottle or other liquid-receptacle which cannotbe refilled after its original contents have been removed.
Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide an attachment adapted to be applied to the neck of a bottle after the latter has been filled which will only permit the free outward passage of the liquid.
Finally, the object of the invention is to provide an attachment having springs secured thereto and adapted to seat in an annular recess in the neck of the bottle, thereby preventing the removal of the device after being inserted in the neck of the bottle. Y With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter fully described and the novel features particularly pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure l is a vertical sectional view through the neck of a bottle, showing a bottle and stopper therefor constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the stopper. Fig. 3 is an end view of the stopper, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the spiral guard.
Bottles to which my invention is adapted to be applied are not essentially different from those in use, but are preferably provided with a neck l, having the straight internal bore and provided intermediate its length with an annular recess 2 and at the lower end of the neck with a shoulder 3, the functions of which will hereinafter be fully described.
The attachment or stopper is adapted to be inserted in the neck of the bottle, and consists of a tube 4, which is provided with cork, wood, or rubber collars 5 and 6, said collars being secured at each end on the outer peripheral surface of the tube. A metal ring 7, which is provided with a bevel edge 8, is secured within one end of the tube 4, said ring forming a valve-seat for a ball-valve 9. Arranged above the ball-valve is a spiralshaped guard 10, which is connected at one end to the u per or opposite end of the tube from the vallfre-seat and extends in the tube to within a short distance of the ball-valve. The spiral guard l0 forms an indirect passage to the valve and effectually preventing the insertion of any instrument, whereby the valve might be held off its seat and at the same time afford a free passage for the liquid.
In order to permit a free passage of the liquid from the bottle, I provide the space between the s iral guard and ball-valve, whereby the bail is permitted to move away from its seat to permit the free egress of the liquid when the bottle is inverted or turned on its side.
The device is provided with springecatches l1 and 12, which engage in the annular recess of the neck, thereby preventing the withdrawal of the device.
In operation the bottle is first filled with the desired liquid and the device is inserted in the neck of the bottle until the end of the tube seats against the shoulder 3, and the ends of the springs will then be in a line with the annular recess of the neck, and at the same time the ends of the springs will seat in the recess, and thereby lock the device in order to prevent its removal from the neck of the bottle. After the device is secured in place a sto per 13A is inserted in the end of the neck o the bottle to prevent dust or dirt from accumulating in the device.
The construction, operation, and advantages will, it is thought, be understood from the foregoing description, it being noted that various changes may be made in the proportions and details of construction for carrying the invention into practice without departing from the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
1. The combination with a bottle of a tube provided with a collar at each end secured on the outer peripheral surface of the tube and a valveeseat secured Within one end of the tube,
a ball-valve adapted to seat within the tube and a spiral guard suitably secured at one end and extending inwardly of the tube and IOO- IIO
spring-actuated means for preventing the removal ofthe tube from the neck of a bottle.
2. The combination of a tube provided With a valveeseat at one end and a spiral guard having one end secured to the inner surface of the tube and extending a predetermined distance Within the tube and spring actuated means for preventing the removal of the tube from the neck of a bottle as and for the purpose described.
3. In combination With a bottle-neck having an annular recess intermediate its length and provided with an annular shoulder at one end, a tube provided with a collar on itsl peripheral end surfaces and With a ring secured Within one end, said ring providing a valve-seat, a ball-valve adapted to seat on the ring and a spiral guard secured in the tube directly over the ball-valve substantially as described.
4. In a device of the character described, a

5. In combination with a bottleneck provided With an annular recess intermediate its length and having a shoulder at one end,
a tube provided With a collar on each end and a beveled ring-valve seat'secured Within one end of the tube and a spiral guard secured Within the opposite end of said tube7 said spiral guard extending Within the tube a predetermined distance, and springs secured on the outer surface of the tube and adapted to engage in the annular recess ofthe neck.
