Application filed February 4,1905- S erial No. 244 148:
1'0 all; whom it'- many concern:
Be it known that we, MAX FRANZ Josnr AUGUST KNm and ANsnLM J osnr LINNARTZ, subjects of the German Emperor, residing in Li'ibeck, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Sound-Deadening Cases for Type-Writers, of
which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates toimprovements in sound-deadening cases for type-writers; and the object-of the invention is to prevent the clicking noise caused by the actuation of-the v typedevers. I
With this end in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter de-' scribed and claimed.
In the accompan ing drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation 0 a type-writing machine rovided with our improved sound-deadening case. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same; andFigs. 3 and 4 are side elevations, the'former partly in vertical transverse section.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
According to our invention the whole writing mechanism is incloscd in a box or case in such a manner that only the key-levers and keys are exposed. The box or shell a may be made of wood or sheet metal or of any other material which is sufficiently rigid to keep the necessary form or shape. In the lower front wall of the box a is arranged an opening through which the key-levers c project, as shown. On the inner or outer side of the box or case a, or on both sides of the same, is arranged a layer s, of felt, clotli,r11bber, or other sound-deadening material.
1' The bottom plate I) of the box is also covered in the same manner. Where openin s are requiredas, for instance, for the keyevers e,' the handle (1 for moving the paper to be written on &c.the edges of such opening.
ing material. Suitable hinged doors f g, also cushioned, are provided for permitting the paper to be inserted in the machine or other wise giving access to the latter. The door or lids' f g are arranged in the top of the easing and swing upwardly in opposite directions, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 4,
latter are closed. By this arrangement the casing may be opened only to the necessary extent by raising either or both of said lids. A sight-opening it, covered with glass, mica,
