DOOR-CATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1906.
Continuation of application Serial No. 217,195, filed Julyl9,1904- This application filed Kay 15, 1905. Serial No. 260,558.
To all whomit may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY FRANCIS KEIL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Bronxville, in the county of festchester and State of New York, certify that I have invented a certain new and useful Door-Catch, of which the following is a specification, the same being a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it a pertains to make and use the same, this app ication being a continuation of my former application, Serial No. 217,195, filed July 19, 1904.
This invention relates to devices for holding or retaining articles or keeping the same in an inactive relation, and in particular for means for holdin movable or swingin doors, gates, or ana ogous articles in a close position and which is designated by me as a door-catch; and it has for its object the production of an article of the class described simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and efficient in practical use.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of arts, all of which will be hereinafter describe and pointed out in the drawings, in Which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a door-catch made accordin to my invention. Fig. 2 is a lan view, and ig. 3 1s a rear elevation of t e same. Fig. 4 1s a view in section through the pivot, and Fi 5 is a view in section through the latch adjacent to the spring; and Fig. 6 is a view in section of another article constructed according to my invention, showing my latch and base-plate connected by a rivet.
Referring particularly to the drawings, A denotes the base-plate of my door-catch, made from sheet metal and formed with two integral lateral projections or wings A, located in the horizontal plane of the said baseplate and also constructed with two parallel and vertical integral parts A, which are formed with means whereby the latch may be pivoted and retained therein inworking position, as rojections a in Fig. 4 or a hole a. in Fig. 6, tilie said upbent parts also having two vertically-disposed grooves or recessed portions 0. to contain a spring D, which A so as to form a pivoted bearing for said latch. The said latch B also has a slot or recessed portion 6 the upper part and sides of which slot constitute, together with the vertical grooves a and bottom of the base-plate, a chamber for the spring D. The end I) of the latch B, which forms the handle thereof, is
bent at an angle to the plane of the said latch and also serves to limit the downward movementof the rear portion of the latch, while the front portion or nose I) of the same serves as a means of afl'ordin a stop for the forward movement of the latch.
Having thus particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, it being kept in mind that in law the substitution of equivalents works no variation in the substance of the same, I would have it understood that what I claim as my invention is- 1. In a door-catch made of sheet metal, a latch formed with op ositely'disposed hollows in the two faces t ereof, in combination with a base-plate having two parallel portions bent up vertically to contain the latch, means to engage the said recessed portions or openin s, the two upbent parts having oppositelyisposed vertical grooves or recessed portions to contain a spring, and also with a lspriplg to engage therewith and also with the atc 2. In a door-catch made of sheet metal, a latch, a base-plate having two parallel portions bent u vertically, and means to engage the latc the two upbent parts also havmg two oppositely-disposed grooves or recessed portlons to contain a spring located between the latch and the base-plate.
3. In a door-catch made of sheet metal, a latch formed with a slot or recess and two oppositely-disposed indentions on the two faces thereof, in combination with a baseplate having two portions bent up vertically to contain the latch and having two rojec- York, county and State of New York, this tions to engage the said indentions, w ereby 10th day of May, 1905.
the latch may be pivoted without the use of H r y a, spindle, the two upbent parts having op- HENR1 FHA} CIS KEIL' 5 positely-disposed grooves 01' recesses. Witnesses:
In testimony of the foregoing specification V JOSEPH FETYK,
Ido hereby sign the same, in the city of New I DIEDRIGH STEGEN.
