BASH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 663,611, dated December 11, 1900. Application filed October 8,1896. Serial No. 608,261. on; model.)
Toall whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. MosELEY, a citizen of the U'nited States of America, residing at Salem, in the county of Dent and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of*reference marked thereon, which form 'a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a sash-holder of improved construction that will dispense with the use of sash-balances and support the sash by frictional contact; and it consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window, showing the application of my invention; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the device.
A designates the window-frame, and B B p the sliding sashes, which are mounted therein in the usual manner. The stiles B of the sashes are each provided with a recess b in its outer edge to'receive my improved sashholding devices, said recess being deep at its center and shallow at its ends for the purpose hereinafter set forth.
0 designates a fiat spring which is secured at one end in the, upper shallow part of the recess B, so that the free end will project into the deeper part. of said recess, the said free end being formed to present'ears c, pierced to receive a transverse pin 01, upon which is- .mounteda friction-roller D. In the opposite end of the recess 11 is secured a second flat spring C by means of a screw 0 or equivalent means, and this second spring is curved longitudinally and so located that the free end thereof will bear against the periphery of the roller D and force said roller against the sides of the window-frame when the device is applied.
It will he noted that the curved spring 0' reinforces or assists the spring 0, which car ries the roller, and also impedes the rotation of said roller, so that the device will elfectually support the sash at any height it may he slid. It will also be noted that thespring O wipes the periphery of the roller D and will thereby keep the same clean of any rosin or dirt that may collect thereon.
By providing the sash-holder with a spring pressed roller there is no wea'r upon the window-frame, though the supplemental spring provides, suflicient friction between the parts to insure the proper support of the sash.
In case the sash is large and veryheavy two of the devices herein shown and described can beapplied to each stile near the upper and lower ends thereof.
My invention not only provides a very simple and effective sash holder or support, but also forms an antirattler.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A window-sash holder consisting of two oppositely-disposed flat spring plates. and a smooth roller mounted in the free end of one of said plates, the spring-plate having the roller adapted to be secured at one end in one end of an elongated recess ,in a sash or its frame and the other spring-plate adapted to be secured at one end in the other end'of said elongated recess and beari n g against the periphery ofsaid' roller. so as to act as a brake therefor and force it outwardly.

In testimony whereof I aifix my signature
