Patented Sept. 25, 1906.
Application filed March 16, 1906. Serial No. 306.392.
T @ZZ 'LU/tom, it ntcty concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs GARFINKLE, a
citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Store Furniture, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the construction of the cabinets used in establishments for the sale of costumes, gowns, cloaks, and like articles of apparel, and the present invention consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter set forth and claimed. l
The object of this invention is to enable the attendants in waiting on customers to open at will different compartments or portions of a cabinet, so as to render accessible the contents, and to provide in juxtaposition to the open doorway for the use of the customer a triple mirror conveniently and securely supported by one of the doors of the cabinet and adapted to be folded up when not in use, so a's to harmonize with the cabinet-work of the store furniture.
A sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof.
Figure l is a front view of a combined triple cabinet and triple mirror embodying this invention as the article appears with the doors and mirrors closed. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section through the front of the closed cabinet on the line A B, Fig` 1; and Figs. 3 to 5, inclusive, represent horizontal sections through the front of the cabinet in the same plane as Fig. 2, showing the cabinet with the several compartments or portions thereof open as in use.
Like reference characters refer to like parts in all the figures.
The new article of store furniture consists of a cabinet of any required proportions suitable for costumes7 gowns, cloaks, or other like articles of apparel, having, preferably, three compartments or portions l, 2, and 3.
The front of the triple cabinet represented by the drawings has doors l', 2, and 3, corresponding with the respective portions 1, 2, and 3, osets 4 and 5 being formed at the sides of the central door 2', so that the latter projects in front of or forwardly beyond the two side doors l and 3, The side doors l and 3' are preferably slidable in ways 6,
so that either of them may common to both, slide behind the central door. They may 5 5 otherwise be of any known or improved conl struction. The door 2 of the central portion 2 is so constructed as to be slidable in ways 7 in front of either wing of the triple cabinet, and said central door 2 is provided with a triple mirror, the respective parts of which are shown at c, b, and c in Figs. 2 to 5, inclusive. l) of the three The central mirror is xedly attached to the door 2, so as to form its outer face when the triple mirror is open, and the side mirrors a and c are hinged to the door 2 at the lateral edges of said central mirror and adapted to swing outwardly, 'so as to expose the faces of the three mirrors in the customary manner, as represented in Figs. 3 to 5, inclusive. 7o
The backs of the side mirrors may be and preferably are covered with wood or its equivalent corresponding with the other cabinet-work of the article, so that when the triple mirror is closed the article will present the appearance of an ordinary triple cabinet with a protruding central portion. Vith the triple mirror open for use, as shown in Figs. 3 to 5, inclusive, it will be seen that this important adjunct can be moved into juxtaposition with any two of the three portions of the cabinet, with either of such portions open so as to expose the contents, and that the attendant may thus with great facility remove articles of apparel from either com partment, While a customer standing before the mirror may try them on or examine them with the aid of the mirror.
Fig. 3 shows the mirror (L l) e opened in a central position with the right-hand side portion 3 opened. Either of the side portions l and 3 may be opened with the mirror in such central position.
Fig. 4 shows the mirror in front of the lefthand portion l with the mirror and central 95 portion 2 open and the right-handdoer 3 exposed, so that it too may be opened.
` Fig. 5 shows the mirror opened in front of the right-hand compartment 3 with the lefthand portion 1 open and the central portion roo openable.
A cabinet with only two compartments or portions and two doors or with more than three compartments and three doors may obviously be constructed on the same princi- 1o 5 ple. The cabinet-work may be of metal or other material instead of wood, and other like modifications will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art. i Having thus described said improvement, 11o
triple mirror is open,
I claim as my invention and desire to patent under this specificationl. A cabinet constructed with a plurality of portions and with doors rendering each of them openable in front so as to expose the contents, one of said doors projecting forwardly beyond another and slidable in front of the latter and provided with a triple mirror including a central'mirror forming the outer face of said slidable door when the triple mirror is open,'and a pair of side mirrors hinged to the same door at the lateral edges of said central mirror.
2. A cabinet constructed with a plurality of portions and with a corresponding plurality of sliding doors rendering each of said portions openable in front so as to expose the contents, one of said doors projecting forwardly beyond another and slidable in front of the latter and provided with a triple mirror including a central mirror forming the outer face of the door last named when the and a pair of side mirrors hinged to the same door at the lateral edges of said central mirror.
8. A triple cabinet, for costumes and like articles of apparel, havinga normally central door projecting forwardly beyond the Wings and ways therefor rendering the sameslidf able in front of either wing to open thel central portion of the cabinet, said door being provided with a triple mirror including a central mirror forming the outer face of said slidable v,door when the triple mirror is open, and a pair of side mirrors hinged to the same door at the lateral edges of said central mirror, the front of said wings being also openable to expose the contents, whereby the said triple mirror is adapted to be moved into juxtaposition with any two of the three portions ofthe cabinet with any of such portions open so as to expose the contents.
4. As a new article of store furniture, a triple cabinet, for costumes and like articles of apparel, having a normally central door projecting forwardly beyond the wings, slidable in front of either wing to open the central portion of the cabinet and provided with a triple mirror including a central mirror forming the outer face of said door when the triple mirror is open, and a pair of inwardly-folding side mirrors' hinged to the same door at the lateral edges of said central mirror and constructed with backs corresponding with the cabinet-work of the article which are exposed when the side mirrors are folded, each of the Wings having a door in the front of the cabinet slidable behind the mirl door, substantially as herein- JULIUS GARFINKLE.
