Description
No- 830,760. PATENTED SEPT. 11, 1906. G. P. ARNOLD.
PIPE REAMER.
- APPLICATION FILED NOV.15,1905.
Witnesses Attorns UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 1906.
Application filed November 15, 1905. Serial No. 287,488.
I; all 1071 0712, it ntay concern:
. Be it known that I, CHARLES P. ARNOLD,a
citizen of the United States, residing at Ohi- I cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Pipe- Reamer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pipe-reamers, and has for an object to provide a reainer attached by improved means to a pipe-threading d ie-stock and whereby the end of the pipe may be threaded and the bur resulting from cutting reamed out in a single operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a reamer carried by a frame arranged to replace the plate ordinarily employed to retain the die in operative position in a pipecutting die-stock and to operate in conjunction with the die.
IVit-h these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, aswill be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made without ('leparting from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
In the drawin s, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a pipe-threading die-stock with the improved reamer applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3'is'a transverse sectional view taken online 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the hand-wheel, showing the reamer-shank in dotted lines.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the draw mgs.
In its preferred embodiment the improved pipe-reamer forming the subjeet matter of this application comprises a plate 10, proportioned to replace the usual plate which holds the die 11 in operative position in a diestock 12, having the usual handles 13. Upon and integral with the plate 10 is erected a frame 14, having a top or cross-piece 15. The top is provided with an opening 16 oval in cross-section and in alinement with the work-receiving aperture of the die 11 and the ed stem thereon, havin bushing 17 for holding the stock true upon the pipe, as 18.
Within the frame is mounted a reamcr 19, havin a shank 20, provided with the screw threads 21, which are interrupted by flattening the opposite sides of the shank, as at 22, to engage against the longitudinal sides of the oval opening lfiand to permit a longitudinal but prevent a' rotary movement of the shank therein. 1
U on the top of the frame is mounted a ham -wheel 23, having a screw-tln'caded axial opening 24, engaging the screw-threads of the shank. The ham l-wheel is provided with an annular groove '25, which is engaged by inturned lips 26, carried by the frame, to prevent displacement of the hand-wheel while permitting free rotary movement. At approved points the hand-wheel is provided with one or more notches '27, positioned to be engaged by a screw 28, carried by an car 39 upon the frame, and to lock the hand-wheel against rotary lisplaeement.
For operation the reamer is adjusted to the approved height by rotating the hand-wheel in either direction, the shank of the reamer being thereby moved longitudinally until the reamer is at the adjustment desirable.
Owing to the tapered form of the reamer, the same can be used upon pipes of any sizes capable of being inserted into the stock.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. An attachment for pipe-threading diestocks comprising a frame having an irregular opening therein, a reanier, a S(I'G\Vtlll'tttla flattened face, said stem slidably mounted within the opening and held against rotation by the walls thereof, oppositely-dis )OS6(l lips upon the frame, and a hand-wheel adapted to be interposed laterally between and to be engaged by the lips, said Wheel engaging and adapted to actuate the stem.
2. An attachment for pipe-threading dicstocks comprising a frame having an irregular opening therein, a reamer, a threaded stem extending therefrom and having a flat-' tened face, said stem slidably mounted in the aperture and held against rotation by the walls thereof, oppositely disposed lips upon the frame, an ear on said frame, a head adapted to be inserted laterally between the my own I have hereto affixed my signature in lips and against the ears, said lips projecting the presence of'two Witnesses.
into an annular groove in the head, and said head engaging the stem, and having notches CHARLES ARNOLD 5 therein, and means Within the ear for engag- Witnesses:
in the notches. THOMAS .E; JONES,
. n testimony that I claim the foregoing. as CHAS. R. BLESSING.
