JAMES L. THOMPSON, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
REAMING ATTACHMENT FORDlE-STOCKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Iietters Patent No. 712,445, dated. October 28, 19 2- Applioation filed April 7, 1902. Serial No. 101,75 7. (No model.)
T0 at whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES L. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beaming Attachments for Die-Stocks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in reaming attachments for die-stocks, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby a pipeis threaded and reamed at the same time. It is a wellknown fact that when pipes have been cuta bore is formed at the endjof the pipe and the inner diameter of the pipe at the end is slightly contracted. Heretofore it has been customary to first thread the pipe and after ward ream the inner face of the pipein order to obtain a uniform diameter and a mooths inner face. i
It is the object of the present invention to overcome the necessity of two operations and to provide novel means whereby the threading of the pipe and the reaming thereof is ac: complished by a single operation.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a device of the aboveedescribed character that will be extremely simple in construction, strong, durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and highly efticient in its use.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the reamer attachment. Fig. 3 is a 1ongitudinal sctional view of a pipeand dies, showing the reamer in side elevation.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 represents the stock-die, which is of the ordinaryconstruction,carryinghandles2 2. Upon said handles are secured collars 3, carrying apertured lugs 4, between which are secured by means of bolts 5 arms 6. These arms terminate in a central plate 7, which has formed.
therein a square opening. From the central plate 7 also extends arms 8 8, havingoutwardly-extending supports 9, which straddle of a set-screw 14, rests upon the upper face of the plate 7, and a spiral spring 15 encircles the square shaft 10 below the plate 7, and
the end of the spring bears against the annular Washer 16, which is also secured upon connection with the accompanying drawings.
It will be noted that various changes may ,be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a pipe-threading diestock having handles, collars secured on the said handles, said collars being provided with apertured lugs, a bowed frame formed with a central plate arranged above the stock and having its ends detachably secured between the lugs of the said collars, arms formed integral with the said plate at diametrically opposite points and extending downwardly at right angles to the said frame, said arms having their lower ends in engagement with the die, a shaft arranged in an opening in the said central plate, a ream or on the lower end of the said shaft, and a springinterposed between the said frame and reamer.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES L. THOMPSON.
