Be it known that I, ROBERT PITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pinetops, in the county of Edgecombe and State of North 5 Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises a novel form of bottle embodying a plurality of compartro ments adapted to contain a liquid or liquids of different kinds and having means for removing the contents of each of its compartments one at a time as may be desired by the user of the receptacle. The invention is I 5 not only designed as a container for different substances in a single receptacle, but may be used for amusement purposes as a trick device, and the operation and construction of the invention with reference to the above 2o uses will be pointed out more clearly hereinafter.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction'of` 2 5 the means for effecting the result reference is to be Ahad to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a .bottle embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a 3o horizontal section. Fig. 3 is a sectional view embodying a modification of the invention particularly designed for amusement purposes. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the bottle shown in'Fig. 1.

In carrying out the invention a bottle or 4o receptacle embodying the same consists,
primarily, of two sections-namely, the bodysection 1 and a neck or outlet section 2. In
one adaptation of the invention the bodysection 1 is of a suitable size and form to re- 4 5 ccive two or more receptacles 3, the latter being of such a form as to fit snugly within the body-section 1 and not 'have any play or movement which might take away from the effectiveness of the invention. The inner re- 5o ceptacles 3 may consist of bottles of glass or similar substance, and said receptacles3 are preferably of like form, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Each of the receptacles 3 is provided at its up'ier end is ith 5 5 a short neck 4, forming an out et therefor, each of which outlets is adapted to register with an outlet-passage 5 in the neck or outlet section 2 of thedevice. The passage 5 leads from the central passage 6, forming a continuation and terminating aty the upper ex- 6p tremity ofithe section 2, preferably, and when the two sections 1 and 2 are secured together the latter section is adapted to be adjusted so as to bring thelower end ofthe passage 5 into register or linewith a selected or prede- 65 termined one of the Outlets 4 of the inner receptacles 3. The sections 1 and 2 are connected together by means of a rod or attach ing member 7, the lower end of which is adapted to screw into a threaded opening 7o formed centrally of the body-section 1 and the upper end of which is'provided with a suitable screw-head 8, admitting of application of a screw-driver or si milar'tool in order to adjust the member 7 in such a way as to con- 75 nect the sections 1 and 2 in a substantial Way, but admitting of movement of the latter relative to the former. A washer 9 may be provided below the head 8 of the member 7,' and it will be noted that the arrangement 8o ofthe member 7 is such that it maybe readily placed in position by passing it through the passage 6 in the neck or outlet section 2. In order to positively hold the bodies of the rcceptacles 3 in place in the section 1 of the 85 bottle, it is preferred that an annulus or ring 10 be disposed so that its lower portion bears against the bodies of the receptacles 3, While its upper portion is engaged by the section 2, the frictional contact of said section 9o 2 being sufficient to prevent all vertical play of the receptacles 3 and hold the same snugly in the section 1, as before mentioned. The portion of the section 2 which is in contact with the upper extremities of the outlet- 95 l necks 4 of the receptacles 3 may be provided with a Washer 20 applied thereto in any suitable way, so as to prevent likelihood of leakage or lescape of the contents of those receptacles 3 the outlet-openings of which are not roo in register with the passage 5 ofthe section 2.
In the actual operation of the invention it Awill be obvious that the receptacles 3 in the body-section 1 of the bottle may be filled with liquids of different qualities, colors, simiro 5 lar or dissimilar, as may be desired, and whenever it is necessary to pour such liquid from any one of the receptacles 3 the outletneck l4 thereof is brought into register with the passage 5of the section 2, and on inver- I ro sion of the bottle the contents of such receptacle may .be readily poured therefrom and seines aimera.

In accordance with the invention, therefore, a single bottle apparently containing a single class of goods may contain liquids or substances of different kinds, which may be displaced from lsuch bottle at the will of the operator. The operator is enabled to ascertain when the passage 5 is in register with a selected one of the outlets 4 by means of the provision of suitable indicating data upon the lower portion and upper portion of the sections 2 and 1, respectively. This indicating data may be in the form. of corresponding numerals or letters adapted to be brought into register to determine when the passage 5 is in register with the desired outlet of one of the receptacles 3. It will be obvious that when the passage 5 is not in register with any of the outlets 4 ofthe receptacles 3 the latter are entirely closed by the section 2, this preventing escape of the contents thereof, and in some instances contamination' of such contents would likewise be prevented.
A modification of the invention is represented in Fig. 3 of the drawings in which the bottle is constructed more particularly for trickor amusement purposes. In this instance the body-section 1 instead of having a plurality of compartments formed by a plurality of inclosed receptacles is made of solid form and provided with a number of c ompartments 3, each of which is adapted to register with the outlet-passage in the necksection 2. The sections 1 and 2 in Fig. 3 may be attached together in the same way as described hereinbefore; but the construction of the bottle is somewhat simplified by reason of the formation of the compartments 3, which are virtually the equivalent of the compartments 3, constituted by the receptacles 3 in the construction of the invention as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The device shown in Fig. 3 when used for amusement purposes may have the compartments 3 thereof filled with different-colored balls, trinkets, or similar articles, which at the will of the operator may be removed from the bottle by simple adjustment of the section 2. As a means of mystification, more particularly with reference to its amusement functions, the device hereinbefore described is of particular advantage. Different-colored liquids may be poured out of the same bottle or different kinds of small articles may be taken from a single receptacle, apparently, and the above operations Would be such as to completely inystify an audience, for reasons which are readily apparent.
More specifically describing the modification in Fig. 3, it will be observed that an intermediate section 15 is arranged between lthe sections 1 and 2, said section 15 being provided with a central opening through which the fastening connecting the sections 1 and 2 passes- 'The intermediate section 15 is rotatable either' independently of or with the sections 1 and 2, and said section 15 is formed with an outlet-passage 16, adapted to be brought into register with the outlet-passage 5 of the section 2 and any one of the compartments 3a. Furthermore, said passage 16 may be caused to register with a pocket or small auxiliary compartment 17, which is formed in the body of the section 2, extending from the lower end thereof and being closed at its upper end. The provision of the section 15 is to subserve the trick purposes of the invention when it is used as a toy, and the advantages of the above will be noted when the operation of the device as last described is understood. The sections 1, 2, and 15 will be provided with suitable indicating data similar to that shown in Fig. 4 cX- teriorly thereto, whereby whenever desired the passage 16 may be brought into register with the small pocket or compartment 17, or said passage 16 may be similarly positioned with reference to the passage 5. Inpractical use a small ball or a number of balls may be arranged in the pocket or compartment 17 of the section 2 by one who knows how to operate the device, and it will then be necessary to bring the passage 16 into register with the compartment 17 in order that the balls in the latter may be displaced therefrom, so as to enter one of the compartments 3, this it will be necessary to bring the passage 16 into register with such compartment 3a and then bring the passage 5 of section 2 into register with the registering passage 16 and compartment 3a in order that the articles in the last-mentioned compartment may be caused to pass therefrom out of the neck of the bottle. For one not knowing how to operate the invention it will be seen that it would be very difficult to remove the balls or articles in compartment 17.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. In a bottle or similar receptacle of the class described, the combination of a bodysection formed with a plurality of separate compartments, an outlet-section provided with a central passage and also with a laterally-extending outlet-passage coinmunicating therewith, a rod pivotally connecting the two sections to admit of the outlet-passage being turned into registry with any one of the before-mentioned separate compartments in the body-section, the said rod being disposed in alinement with the before-mentioned ccntral passage in the outlet-section and being screwed into the body-section, the head of the rod engaging with the bottom of the central passage so as to be readily accessible through the same.

830,001 Q s 3A compartments, an oulet-section provided with a central passage and also with a laterally-extending outlet-passage communicating therewith,- a washer interposed between the two members and provided with an opening ada ted to register with the before-mentioned outlIet-passage, and a rod pivotallyoonnecting the two sections and admitting ofthe outletpassage being turned into registry with any one of the separate compartments inthe bodysection, the said rod being disposed in alinement with the before-mentioned central opening in the outlet-section and being screwed into the body-section, the head of the rod engaging with the bottom of the central passage and being readily accessible therethrough.
3. In a bottle or similar receptacle of the class described, the combination of a bodysection, a plurality of se arate receptacles arranged therein, an annu ar ring surrounding the separate .receptacles and holding them against movement Within the body-section, and an outlet-section ap lied to the body-section and provided wit an outletpassage, the said outlet-section being adjustable to throw the outlet-passage into registry with a selected one of the before-mentioned receptacles,
