Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 19, 1906.
Application filed September 5, 1906. Serial No. 277,040.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, MICHAEL LOFTUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a device which is applicable to bottles to revent the refillin thereof, the principal i dature being a ba l-valve having a stem extending to the lower part of the bottle, a suitable guideway bein provided for the same at the bottom. 11 the neck of the bottle is a glass retainer or guard for the valve.
"In the drawings, Fi ure 1 is a central vertical section of a bott e embodying my imrovement. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the inc 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referrin s ecifically tothe drawin s,
refers to t e ottle, which may be 0 any suitable form or shape. In this bottle in the 12 is a valve-seat 11. Fitting this is a ball 12, havin a pendent rod or stem 13, which extends (Town through the body of the bottle into a small tubular recess 14: at the bottom of the bottle. more perfect equilibrium and to retain the ball in its position and brin it to its seat at all times which mi ht not e accomplished if the ball was simp y allowed to play loose. The retainer 15 is a cylindrical iece of after the This is done to secure ball 12 has been inserted. This retainer 15 acts as a weight to keep the ball in position,
but does not prevent the flow of liquid out of the bottle.
At the mouth of the bottle is a screwthreaded piece of glass or cork 16 screwed and cemented therein. This is not an essential feature of the invention; but it serves to prevent to some extent tampering with the valve. 4
When the bottle is tipped down to pour therefrom, the ball 12 and retainer 15 fall away from the valve-seat, and the liquid can flow through. When the bottle is upright,
. the ball falls to the valve-seat and closes the valve, so that liquid cannot be poured into the bottle.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
A bottle having -a guide-socket in the bottom and a valve-seat in the neck, a valve-ball fitting the seat and having astem extending
