IMPROVEMENT n1 cooxme-srovss.

To ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, NIcHohAs S. Vnnnnn, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of New Yorl ,have
invented a new and useful Improvement in, Cooking-Stoves; and I dohereby dcclare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand and construct the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which make part of the specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a top view of my improved stove.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section.
Figure 3is a partially-sectional front elevation, and
Figures 4 and 5 detached views of parts of the same.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the. several figures.
The nature of my invention consists in tho'construction of a piece of said stove, by means of which an airchannel is formed, which conducts air from under the stove to the air-chamber under the fire-grate and fireplace,
so as to prevent scorching in the bake-oven.
Also, in making the rear plate of the air-chamber of the bake-oven removable, to enable the chamber to be cleaned.
A, in the drawings, may represent the front plate of the cooking-stove. B is a plate in therear of it, which,
with the sliding plate C andthe bottom plate D of the fireplace, forms an air-chamber, E, to which air is admit-,
ted through holes, a, in the bottom plate of the stove, and the air-channel 6, formed by the plate B, which is provided with openings 0, of casting, as shown in fig. 5, and is placed between plates A and B, and under the ash-guide cl. It consists of two upright pieces,f, and the cross-piece under which the ash-gratee slides, and is thus held in place. [are cleats, between which the piece F is held.
and the piece F, shown in figs. 2, 3, and 5. This pieceF is a hollow, three-sided piece G is the ash-pit, to the sides of which are secured beads or projections, g, on which the grate e rests, (its rear end being under the cross-piecef" of the piece F,)-and under which the ash-drawer hslides, in such a mannor that, when-the drawer is drawn out, its top edges rest against the projections g, and prevent the drawer from.
tipping. In thus separating the grate from the dI'ZLWQLdh is not necessary to touch the grate, when it is desired to remove the ashes from the drawer. v v
As-the air-ohamberE is very apt to get filled with dust and dirt drawn up with the current of air passing through it, to cleanse the same-becomes necessary. This is almost impossible when the air-chamber is formed in one piece with the stove-plates. By my improved construction, I am enabled to cleanse it easily, by merelydrawing out plate 0. I
If the air-channel b were-formed on either plat'eA hr B, it would be more diflicult to cast, and also very dithcult to fit, but, by forming it by means of piece I* ,it is not only no trouble to cast, but also necessarily must fit without muchz'trimming. I have found it to be practically a great advantage. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. The piece F, when constructed as and for the purposes herein described. 2. The plate 0, forming the air-chamber E, when made sliding, as herein shown and described. The above specification of my improvement in cooking-stoves signed, .this third day of' July, 186 8l I NICHOLAS S. VEDDER.
Witnesses: I v
