flit: gtlgrtnle refiner tn in tips: some fitted ant mating part at 11;: same.
TO ALL WHOM I'I MAY CONCERN: '7 Be it known that I, JOHN MAGEE, of. Chelseo, in the county of Sufl'olk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,'making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cooking-stove, with my improved warming-closet applied thereto. Figure 2 isa. longitudinal vertical section through the centre of the same. Figure 3 is a. transverse section onthe line zen: of fig. 2. Figure 4 is a horizontal section on the line 3 y of fig. 2, representing only the warming-closet and oven. The subject of my'present application relates to certain improvements in cooking-stoves, already referred to in two other applications made by me simultaneously with this; and my invention consists in a warmingcloset, situated under the hearth of ahigh-henrth stove, in which coolied articles of food are placed to be kept warm, ready for use. v P To enable others skilled in'the art to understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I havecarried it out;
Inthe sairl drawings, A is the hearth-plate of an ordinary high-hearth stove, beneath which is formed a. compartment, to be used as a warming-closet, B, for keepingcooked articles of food warm after being removed from the oven or utensils belonging to the stove. l
The bottom of' the warming-closet consists of a lid, 0, hinged or otherwise pivoted at a, said lid being swung open into the position shown in fig. 2, for convenience in removing ashes, & c., from the ash-pit D, and 'for better obtaining access, through the opening 6, to the fines E F, under-the oven, .The closet B is provided "with-doors, c, for snugly closing its front, so as to exclude'the surrounding air, and thereby prevent its cooling.
His the register'or damper, for regulating the supply of air to the fuel in the fire-box I. ,The event} may, if desired, beprovided with anauxiliary flue, J, the construction and object of which are minutely set forth in a separate application for the same, and made by me simultaneously with this. 7
Instead of the stationary hearth-plate forming the top of the -warming-closet, the said plate,- or a portion of it, may be pivoted, or otherwise hinged, so that it may he swung. open, tomore readily insert andremove the article of food to be kept-warn or the lid may be made to slide, or be removedehtirelyfrom the top of the warming-closctgand the doors 0, in front thereof, may be dispensed with, and two plates, forming the top and front of the closet, may behinged or pivotedtogether, the lid forming the top being connected with the back of the hearth, and the lower plate covering the front of the closet, swinging freely thereon. The-front, also, of the closet may be made removable, or swing or slide open independently of the lid forming the top of the said closet. p
Furthermore, the doors 0 may be dispensed with, and access" to the warmingcloset may be obtained by opening a door at oneor both ends thereof, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
, Claims. V V What I claim as my invention, and desire to sccure by- Letters Patent, is-
A warming-closet, B, placed under the hearth of a high-hearth'stove, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. p
I also claim the warming-closet B, the top of which is provided with a movable lid or door, in the manner df th de cribed. an or cpurpose s JOHN MAGEE Witnesses:
