Description
PATENTED AUG. 14, 1906.

VACCINE SHIELD.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 20,1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14,1906.
Application filed September 20, 1905. Serial No. 279,274.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN HEIDEMANN,
- .a citizen of the United States, residing at St.
. ful Vaccine-Shield Louis, Missouri, have invented a new and useand the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vaccine shields and the like; and its object is to produce a shield to be bound over the aflected parts in cases of vaccination and over sores, abrasions, or cuts to hold the medicated or other material thereon and bruising of the afiected parts. The shield has openings to permit circulation of air.
In the drawings which form part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view showing one form of blank from which a shield of this character can be made. Fig. 2 is a top view of the shield made from that blank. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, and Fig. 4 is an end view thereof.
The material from which the blank 1 is made may be of any suitable material, such as celluloid or medicated paper or other analogous materials. The blank is cut out in substantially the shape shown and comprises on each end a central arm 2 and two side arms 3. These various arms are of substantially equal length, and in each central arm 2 there is formed a slit 4, and in one of the arms 3'at each end there is formed a slit 5, forming tongues 6. The blank so formed is complete, and it only remains to shape the same into the shield. This is done by passing the ends of the arms 3 that have the tongues 6 thereon through the slits 4 from the upper side until the tongues 6 engage under the arms 2 and passing the ends of the other arms 3 between the arms 2 and those arms 3 in engagement therewith, the parts then appearing as shown in Fig. 2. This completes the shield, which is substantially in the form of a dome with a projecting base caused by the arms 2 and 3 at opposite sides. In use the medicated or to prevent injury or.
other material is placed on the afiected part and the shield bound over such material, thereby forming a sure protection against ordinary concussion and securely holding the material in position. The openings 7 between the arms permit the required circulation of air while the shield is in use.
A shield of this character will subserve various uses in the medical and surgical professions. It is capable of almost instant application and of as ready removal. It can be made in various sizes, and variations in construction may be made within limits without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
Without restricting myself to inessential details, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A vaccine-shield, comprising a central part 1, two middle arms integral with said central part, each of said arms having a slit near its free end, and two side arms 3 on each side of said central part, certain of said side arms projecting through the slits in the middle arms, and the other side arms having their ends between the middle arms and the said side arms which project through the said slits, substantially as described.
2. A vaccine-shield, comprising a central portion, two middle arms having slits near their free ends integral with said middle portion, two side arms integral with each side of said middle portion and having their ends bent over and attached to said middle arms thereby forming a dome, there being openings 7 between the said side and middle arms, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereto afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN HEIDEMANN. [t s] Witnesses:
