I PATENTED AUG. 7, 1906.

BOTTLE. APPLICATION FILED 00'1.19.-1906.
$806 Inventor,
Attorneys UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. '7, 1906.
Application filed October 19,1905. Serial No. 283,559-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAc CARTER DILKs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cavite, in the Phili pine Islands, have invented a new and usefu Bottle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottles, and has for its object to rovide a bottle which may be readily filled and closed and when so closed can be opened only by fracturing the neck.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bottle of the class which may be cheaply made and which embodies new and improved features of reliability and convenience.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bottle of the class the neck of which is closed through an opening in the bottom of the bottle, which is filled by a suitable closure after the bottle is filled.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a bottle embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the upper end of a bottle-neck, showing the fracturing-pin. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the fracturing-pin. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the implement used for mam ulating the fracturing-pin and removing t e stopper.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawmgs.
In its preferred embodiment the invention forming the subject-matter of this application comprises a bottle of any desired or approved general form and represented conventionally at 10.
At the top the bottle is provided with a neck 20, closed at the top, as by the integral diaphragm 21, and having a lateral slot 22 extending a portion of the way round the neck; The diaphragm 21 is preferably considerably thicker than the material of the bottle-neck and with the slot 22 directly beneath it. Below and abutting the diaphragm the neck is filled and closed by a stopper 24, which may also be of any ordinary and approved material; but for convenience and cheapness cork is found to be the most desirable.
Within the slot 22 is disposed a pin 25, substantially filling the slot and having a depending arm 26 within the neck and extending between the sto 7 per and the diaphragm. The pin 25 is provi ed with spaced openings 27, and to rotatably move the pin to fracture the neck an implement 28 is provided, having the lugs 29, adapted to engage within the o ening 27, and the handle 30 for applying t e necessary force to fracture the bottleneck. The implement 28 is I also provided with a corkscrew 31 for engaging and drawing the stopper 24.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. A bottle-neck provided with a stopper, means for preventing the withdrawal of the stopper, and a pin piercing the side of the neck and adapted to cause the fracture of the neck when manipulated.
2. A bottle-neck closed at the top and provided with a lateral slot, a stopper in the neck, and an angular pin disposed in the slot and adapted to fracture the top of the neck when manipulated.
3. A bottle-neck closed at the top and provided with a lateral slot, a stopper disposed within the neck and with its u per end ad acent the slot, an angular'pin isposed in the slot and retained by the stopper and .adapted to fracture the neck when manipulated.
4. A bottle-neck closed at the top and pro vided with a lateral slot, a stopper in the neck, a pin between the stopper and closed tplp and extending through the slot and a ap ted to fracture the neck when manipur lated.
5. A bottle-neck closed at the top and provided with a lateral slot, a stopper in the neck, and a pin between the stopper and closed top and extending through the slot and with a depending portion engaging the stopper and preventing the withdrawal of the pin and adapted to fracture the neck when manipulated.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC CARTER DILKS.
