Description

' Imelda/1' Wizzewea N- PETERS. PHOTO- THOGRAPHER WASHINGTON n I.
ANSON T. ADAMS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, IN YDIANA.
Letters Patent No. 82,783, dated October 6, 1868.
IMPROVED FURNITURE-GAMER.
flit: Snptnh nfnnt it in flgnr when; nan art muting part at figs stun.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ANSON T. ADAMS, of Indianapolis, in the county of Mariomand in the State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Furniture-Caster; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures and letters of reference marked thereon. i
The nature of the inventionconsists in the useof a sphere or ball of any l'lOIlzCOlldllCtOl of electricity for the roller of a furniture-caster. Said device to be ma de of glass and metal, or any other suitable materials.
To enable others skilled in the..art to make and use my said invention, I proceed to describe it more fully,
as follows:
a A, of Figure No.1 of the accompanying drawings, is a ball or sphere of glass, or any other'snfliciently hard non-conductor of electricity, resting in a concave spherical metal socket represented by B G d of said fig. 1. This socket consists of two halves, as represented in said draught, which are held together by a convenient nut at d, which is adjusted to the conical screw 02 2 around the lower edge of the spherical socket B C (Z. At the edge B G is a series of facets so disposed as to form a six-square nut of convenient size, on which a wrench may rest. 7
In order that the ball may not drop out, the socket B C cl is chambered, so, that the bevel of the edge B C will hold the hall in its place.
To use my said invention, the conical screw d e is fastened in the bottom of the bed-posts, or other desired piece of furniture, by twisting the conical screw 01' 6 into a convenient hole prepared for that purpose, which may easily be done by resting the wrench on the hexagonal edge B O. The bed or other piece of furniture will then rest on glass balls, which will entirely insulate it and all on it and in it, from all natural and artificial currents ,of electricity and galv'anism. I
I do not claim any other socket or basket for operating a ball-caster than-that herein described; but What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination of the spherical socket ot' the halves B C with the hexagonal edge held together by the nut d and the conical screw 0, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing specification, I have hereunto set my hand, this 2d day of March, 1868.
ANSON T. ADAMS.
