JOsEPH W. BLUNDON, OE WHATOOM, WAsHINGTON TERRITORY.
BILLIARD-TABLE LEVELER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,696, dated August 19, 1884. Application filed April 17, 1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOSEPH W. BLUNDON, a native-born citizen of the United States, residing at Vhatcom, in the county of Vhatcom and Territory of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Table Levelers; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled Vin the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to billiard-table lev elers; and its object is to provide a simple and improved device of this class 4which will possess advantages in point of durability, ease of adjustment, and general efficiency.
To this end my invention consists, substantially, in a nut forming the body of the leveling device and having a cylindrical shank which is received by the leg of the table, and
in a foot-piece having a screw-threaded stem upon which the said nut Works; and it furth er consists in certain details of construction,
substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawings, Figure lis a side elevation showing myimproved levelerin position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the saine. Fig. 3 is a detail bottom View of the nut or body of the leveler. Fig. 4 isa detail bottom View of the foot-piece. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view, showing the parts of the leveler dee tached. l y I Corresponding parts in the figures are denoted by the same letters of reference.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the lindrical and, preferably, conical recess, a, in its bottom.
B designates a nut which forms thebody of the leveling device, and is provided with a hexagonal or angular surface, b, which may be readily engaged by a wrench or other instrument when it is desired to turn the nut to effect the adjustment of the leveling device. This nut B is provided with a central screwthreaded eye, b', which is closed at its top end by a cylindrical shank, B', which projects vertically from the top of the nut, and is received by the recess c in the leg of the table. This shank is preferably conical, so that it conforms to the shape of the recess, and it is adapted to turn with the nut during its adjustment. I A washer-plate, C, having a central eye, c, is secured to the under surface of the leg of the table to protect the latter from any wear or friction which might be caused by the adjustment of the nut; and an auxiliary Washer, D, is preferably interposed between the top surface of the nut and the face ofthe main washer-plate.
E designates the foot-piece, which has its bottom provided with radial serrations e, to enable it to retain its position upon the floor;
but it may be also provided with an angular Outer surface, e', which may be engaged by a Wrench to serve as an additional safeguard against rotary movement of the foot-piece during adjustment. From the top of this footpiece projects a perpendicular screw-threaded stem, E', which receives the nut, and upon which the nut is adapted to be adjusted to ef` fect the raising or lowering ofthe end of the table.
The operation and advantages of my invention are obvious.
4The device is very simple and inexpensive in construction, and it is evident that its adj ustment may be effected with facility an d con' venience.
It will be understood that a leveler is to be provided upon the leg or support at each corner of the table, and that my invention is adapted for use upon all `classes of tables.
I claim as my invention-- 1. An improved two-part table-leveler, com prising a nut having a centralscrew=threaded recess or eye opening at its under side, and a cylindrical shank projecting from its top, and a foot-piece having a screw-threaded stem received by said recess in the nut, whereby the nut turns upon the shank of the foot-piece, substantially as set forth.
` 2. The combination, in a table-leveler, with the nut forming the body of the device and provided with the outer angular surface, the central screw-threaded eye, and the cylindrical shank projecting perpendicularly from thetop end of the said eye, of the foot-piece having the radial serrations in its under face and provided With the vertical screwthreaded stem which receives the eye of the nut and upon IOO which the nut turns, substantially as and for nut and the leg of the table, substantially as ro the purpose set forth. and for the purpose set forth.
3. A table-leveler comprising a nut having In testimony whereof I itfiix my signature in the top end of its screw-threaded eye closed presence of two witnesses. by a cylindrical shank which projects vertiy, TY T cally therefrom, said shank being adapted to JOSEPH v LLUB DON turn with the nut, und being received by it cor- XVitnesses: responding` recess in the leg` of the table, and CHARLES I. ROTH, washers interposed between the top of the F. A.. MeMAKiN.
