WITNESSES. INVENTOR %%W %d f W ATTORNEYS COLUMBIA P RAH-l co.. WASHINGTON, n. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER TRINQUE, OF EAST DOUGLASS, MASSACHUSETTS.
FURNITURE-FOOT SOCKET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER TRINQUE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of East Douglass, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Furniture-Foot Socket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a rest for the legs of a radiator or other article of furniture, the vertical dimension whereof may be varied; to provide in a device of the character mentioned means for partially locking the device in set position; and to provide a device of the character mentioned which is simple, economical and durable in construction.
One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a device of the character described, shown in conjunction with the leg of a radiator; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section of the same; and Fig. 3 is a detail view in side elevation of the adjustable cup head provided to receive the foot of a radiator or. other article of furniture.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, a foot piece 8 is provided having an annular flange 9 to bear on the floor. The foot piece 8 is preferably conical in shape, having a cup-like recess 10 formed at the upper end thereof to receive in guided relation the side of a head 11. At the center of the foot piece -8 a threaded perforation 12 is formed to receive the pedestal 13. At the lower end of the pedestal 13 are formed screw threads 14: to register with the threads in the perforation 12.
The head 11 is provided with a vertically extended flange 15 to form a recess wherein is held the foot A of a radiator, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, or the foot of any other suitable piece of furniture. The head 11 is further provided with a downwardly extended flange 16 to form a pocket for holding in guided relation the spring 17. The head 11 is further provided, in suitable location, with spanner holes 18 whereby the said head is rotated.
The purpose of the spring 17 is to normally exert a supporting pressure on the Specification of Letters Patent.

head 11 and the foot piece 8 to thereby force the threads on the pedestal 13 against the threads of the perforation 12 to effect a retardation of the movement of the head on the foot piece, thereby substantially locking the head in fixed position. Any suitable tool for rotating the head 11 is provided.
The operation of the invention is as follows: The foot piece 8 having attached thereto the head 11 is adjusted under the foot of the piece of furniture desired to be held. By manipulating the head 11 to raise or lower the same on the foot piece 8 the combined height of the head and foot piece is varied to accommodate or level the piece of furniture for which the foot rest is provided. When set, it will be seen that the operation of the spring 17 checks the head 11 from rotating in the foot piece 8.
Having thus. described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A furniture foot socket, comprising a foot piece having a flange-like edge for seating upon the floor and provided with a centrally threaded perforation; a head having a cup-like recess in the upper end thereof, said head being thread engaged with the perforation in said foot piece; and a spring interposed between said head and said foot piece to normally press the said head and foot piece in separating direction.
2. A furniture foot socket, comprising a foot piece having at the lower edge an annular seating flange and at the upper edge a vertical flange to form a guide, said foot piece being provided with a centrally threaded perforation; a cylindrical head adapted to rest within the flange formed at the upper edge of said foot piece and having a centrally threaded pedestal the threads whereof register with the threads of the central perforation in said foot piece; and a spring mounted to surround said pedestal to press upward said head.
3. A furniture foot socket, comprising a foot piece having at the lower edge an annular seating flange and at the upper edge a vertical flange to form a guide, said foot piece being provided with a centrally threaded perforation; a head having centrally formed thereon a screw threaded pedestal the threads whereof register with the threads of the central perforation in said foot piece, and said head being provided with an annular groove opening downward and having an annular flange extending up- In testimony whereof I have signed my Ward to form a cup-like recess at the top of I name to this specification in the presence of said head; and a spiral spring adapted to two subscribing Witnesses.
rest in said annular groove to normally OLIVER TRINQUE. press against the body of said foot piece to Witnesses:
hold the threads of said pedestal and said EUGENE DEOATEAU,
