My present invention relates to roll-paper holders and cutters; and itparticularly relates to the constructions, arrangements, and combinations of the various parts, as well as the apparatus as a whole all of which will be hereinafter more fully described, as Well as clearly specified in the appended claims.
In the drawings illustrating the best form of apparatus to me now known for embodying my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view thereof; Fig. 2, a sectional elevation thereof substantially on line :0 a: of Fig. 1. Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are perspective views illuse trating details of construction thereof. Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view of the part shown in Fig. 5. In order to avoid the expense of and necessity for machine-work upon or coring bearing-openings in the arms of knife 17, I have so formed the ends of said arms that they may be cast without cores and with a bearing therein which hooks upon said frame. Whensaid frame is formed of two rods 10, said arms of knife 17 are passed under the near rod 10 and hooked over the far rods 10 and cannot be unhooked therefrom until the paper-roll and its spindle 16 are removed and said knife 17 moved on its fulcrum past the bearings 15.
Both the knives 17 and 18 may be inserted to project from and cut paper upon either side of the frame, as may be most convenient to the operator.
In the precise embodiment'rof my invention shown in the drawings the members 11 extend from the bottom to just above the center of the vertical members of the frame or rods 10, which rods are square in cross-section and bent so that their diagonally op'po site or inner and outer corners lie in the same Said members 11 are each provided with V-shapedvertical recesses 19 and 20, Fig. 5, near their upper and lower ends, which fit against the vertical portions of rods 10. The lower ends of rods 10 are clamped to said recesses 19 of members 11 by clips 21, Figs. 2, 4, and 8,having V-shaped recesses 22 registering with said recesses 19, and bolts or rivets 23 bind clips 21 to said members 11. The rods 10 are clamped in said recesses 20 by bolts or rivets 24, passing through openings in members 11, and bearing-cups 15, having V- shaped recesses 25, Fig. 3, registering with said recesses 20.
For the purpose of assisting the bolts or rivets 24 in holding the bearing-cups 15 in position when the paper-roll is in position I provide projections 26, Figs. 2, 5, and 8, from members 11 upon which said cups 15 rest. This, however, is merely a precautionary measure, adding strength to the device,
.as well as facilitating the assembling by positioning said cups 15.
Each of the members 11 are provided intermediate their ends with a projection 30, Figs. 1, 5, and 8, having a cavity on their in- 1 upon the top of one or more lower cutters, as

As further illustrating the advantages and commercial adaptability and utility of my present invention, and more particularly of the frame thereof when constructed of two rods 10, I have introduced Figs. 9 and 10, showing the knife 18 riding upon the top of the roll of paper and maintained in such position by projections 50 upon the opposite ends thereof extending between and being guided by the vertical portion of the two rods 10, said knife 18 being formed of substantially flat material.

In a roll-paper holder, the combination of a frame including standards, and feet for supporting said frame; bearing members for the paper-roll, an independent member adj acent each of said standards and extending from said, feet to said bearing members, re. cesses in the adjacent faces of each of said supporting and bearing members in which recesses said standards pass, and a single means for securing each of said supporting and bearing members together and clamping said standards in said recesses, substantially as specified.
9. The combination of a rod bent substantially Ushaped a bearing member secured to each of the vertical members thereof, a-member secured to the lower ends of each of the vertical members of the rod, a recess in and extending through the lower face of each of said last-named members, said recesses being vertically below the horizontal portion of said rod, and a separate member secured to each of said last-named members, substantially as specified.
10. The combination of a rod bent substantially U-shaped, a bearing member secured to each of the vertical portions thereof, a member secured to the lower end of each of the vertical portions of said rod, said member having a projection extending outward beyond any interfering part of the apparatus, a slot in'said projection of said member for enabling one or more of said devices to be secured end to end, a recess in the bottom face of said last-named member, substantially as specified.
11. The combination of a plurality of rods bent substantially U-shaped and arranged substantially parallel to each other with an unobstructed space between them, a bearing member secured to each of the vertical sides of the frame formed by said rods, a member secured to the lower end of each of the vertical portions of said frame, a corresponding plurality of recesses in the bottom face of each of said last-named members, said bearing member being adapted to support a roll of paper, and a knife movably mounted in said frame by projections of said knife extending into said unobstructed space, and said knife being adapted torest upon the roll of paper, substantially as specified.

In a paper holder and cutter, the combination of a frame provided with supports for the paper, a knife having arms and rest- ICC tween each vertical member thereof and provided with recesses 19 and en aging said rods, a bearing member 15 secured to each of said members 1 1 and having recesses engaging said rods at a point substantially opposite said recesses 20; a clip 21 having recesses 22 engaging said rods substantially opposite said recesses 19, said clips 21 being secured to said members 11, and a separate member removably secured to the bottom of each of said members 11, substantially as specified.
14. In a paper-cutter, the combination of a rod substantially square in cross-section and bent substantially U-shaped with two of its diagonally opposite corners occupying the same vertical plane, with means for supporting the roll of paper therein and securing feet thereto, said means having recesses fitting said rod, and a knife movably mounted upon said rod to engage the paper, substantially as specified.
15. In a paper-holder, the combination of a frame including upright separated rods on opposite sides, a member and a bearing portion at each end of said frame, recesses intermediate said members and bearing portions adapted to be occupied by said rods, and means intermediate said rods for securing said members and bearing portions to said rods, substantially as specified.
16. In a paper-holder, the combination of a plurality of separated rods bent substantially U-shaped, a relatively long member upon each of the upright sides of the frame formed by said rods, said members bearing near opposite ends against one side of said rods, a bearing-cup upon each end of said frame and bearing upon the side of said rods opposite said members, recesses in said bearing-cups for said rods, a clip for securing each of said members near their opposite ends to said rods, feet upon said members remote from saidbearing-cups, and a bolt or rivet passing through each of said cups and members and each of said clips and members intermediate said rods, for securing said parts together and to said rods, substantially as specified.
17. A paper-cutter frame comprising two substantially parallel rods bent substantially U-shaped, bearing members upon the 18. In a paper-cutter, the combination of I a frame, bearing members secured thereto each comprising a substantially U-shaped cup 15 having a back wall provided with recesses 25 therein near opposite sides, adapted to receive the ends of the frame-rods, substantially as specified.
19. The combination of a plurality of frames each having on opposite ends an abutting projection extending beyond any interfering portion of said frames, a slot in each of said projections, and a bolt passing through each of said slots in said abutting projections for securing said frames together, substantially as specified.
20. In a roll-paper holder and cutter, the combination of a plurality of frames, a recess in the bottom part of each of said frames,a portion of the top of each of said frames being adapted to fit said recesses, the top frame setting upon the lower frame with said recess in its bottom part fitting said portion on the top of said lower frame, and one or more clips removably secured to said upper frame and confining said portion of said lower frame in said recess in the bottom of said upper frame and between said upper frame and said clip, substantially as specified.

In a roll-paper holder and cutter, the combination of a plurality of frames, a plurality of separated engaging faces in a difierent plane from the bottom part of each of said frames, a corresponding plurality of separated portions of the top of each of sa1d frames adapted to engage said faces, the top frame setting upon the lower frame with said faces in its bottom part fitting said portions on the top of said lower frame, said faces and separated portions of different frames being vertically separable, and means removably secured to one of said frames and engaging with another of said frames for removably maintaining the engagement of said faces and portions, substantially as specified.
22. In a roll-paper holder and cutter, the combination of a plurality of frames; a proj ection on each of the opposite ends of said frames extending beyond any interfering portion of said frames, a slot in each of said projections, means passing through said slots in the abutting projections of said frames for securing said frames end to end, a recess in the bottom part of each of said frames, a portion on the top of each of said frames adapt ed to fit each of said recesses, and one or more clips adapted to clamp any of said frames upon the top of one or more of said frames with said recess in its bottom fitting said top portion of the lower frame or frames, substantially as specified.
23. In a roll-paper holder and cutter, the combination of a plurality of frames, a proj ection upon each of the opposite ends of said frames extending beyond anyinterfering portion of said frames, a slot in each of said proj ections, means passing through said slots in the adjacent ends of said projections for securing said frames end to end; a plurality of recess'es in the bottom part, of each of said frames, a corresponding plurality of portions upon the top of each of said frames adapted to fit said recesses, and one or more clips adapted to clamp any of said frames upon the top of one or more of said frames with said recesses in its bottompart fitting said top portions of the lower frame or frames, sub- 20 side of the lower end of said frame, a projec- 25 tion 43 upon each of said feet adapted to fit said recesses 45, and bolts passing through the lower ends of said frame and said feet with a portion of said frame intermediate said bolts and recesses 45, substantially as 0 specified.
