Be it known that I, ELIAS P. JOCELIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Verona, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sleighs, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to sleighs; and its primary object is to provide a novel and highlyuseful shoe therefor which may be used either as a shoe per se or a combined shoe and runner and which is designed to prevent a sleigh from sluing.

A further object is to provide a shoe which is comparatively cheap of construction, easily applied and repaired, and light and durable.

Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sleigh, the same being equipped with a shoe constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of an enlarged fragmentary portion of the sleigh-runner and my improved shoe. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view. thereof. Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view of the Wear member, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings by reference-numerals, 1 designates the wooden runner of an ordinaril -constructed sleigh, to the under side of w 'ch my improved shoe is secured, or it may be secured directly to the sleigh, and thereby dispense with the use of the wooden runner.

2 designates the shoe, the same being channeled to provide depending flanges 3 and an intermediate recess 1. Mounted within said recess and having its under face in horizontal alinement with the edges of the flanges 3 is a wear member 5, which may be constructed of wood or any other material softer thanthe flanges 3.

6 designates a guard which is secured to the forward end of the shoe and curved upwardly over the end of the shoe 2 and runner 1, whereby to prevent them and wear member 5 from being injured. The guard 6 has one endthereof reduced, as at 7, to be inserted between the flan es 3, the upper face of said reduced portion eing inclined downwardly and rearwardly, whereby to overlap the reduced end 8 of the wear member 4:.

The guard 6, the wear member 4, and the shoe 2 are secured together by means of bolts 9, the upper ends of which project through the runner 1 and are threaded for the reception of nuts 10.

It is apparent from the above description, taken in connection with the accompanyin drawings, that the edges of the flanges 3 wifi serve to prevent the sleigh from sluing and that should the wear member 4 wear it can be readily replaced.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanyin drawings, the construction and advantages 0 the invention will be understood without further extended description.

Changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advanta es thereof.

Having frilly described and illustrated my invention, what I claim is Asleigh-shoe comprising a channeled member, a wear member mounted within the channel and having its forward end reduced, the under face of said wear member being in horizontal alinement with the edges of the flanges of the channeled member, and a guard having a reduced end adapted to be received in the channel and overlap the reduced end of the wear member.
