To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. Tnson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Su ports for Swing-Seats, Shelves, &c.; and I hereby fixtures for the suspension of swing-seats,
shelves, and other devices.
Figure 1 of the drawings re resents a side elevation of fixtures in accor ance with my invention connecting a swing-seat withapost of a suitableframe, and Fig. 2 avertical sectional view indicated by line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
Referrin by letter to the drawings, A indicates eac of a pair of posts, and B a brace connecting said posts and therewith forming a frame. Rear brackets, similar to the one C herein shown, may be employed in connection with the posts A and a floor to hold the frame stationary in the desired location for the same. Attached to each post by screws or other suitable "means is a standard having a rearwardly-extending horizontal head portion D, a forwardly-extending horizontal foot portion E, and a compound curvilinear and straight vertical portion F, that connects said head and foot portions. The vertical portion of the standard constitutes a track, the
lower part of which is parallel to the adjacent post at a predetermined distance therefrom,
the upper curvilinear part of the track being outwardly extended and in half-round union with the horizontal head portion of said standard. The track is for an antifriction rollersleeve Gr, incasing a lateral lug H of an arm I, attached by screws or other suitable means to a seat-frame K, and a brace L is pivotally connected at its ends to the seat-frame and the forward end of the foot E of the standard aforesaid.
Thefixtures, each comprising track-standards, support-arms, and braces similar to what is herein shown and described, are applicable in connection with shelves, table-tops, and other devices that are intended to be swung from'horizontal to vertical position out of the way when not in use. In Fig. 1 the vertical position of the support herein specified is shown by dotted lines and its horizontal position by full lines. When the support is swung up to vertical position, its braces L are past centei toward the rear to hold said support in adjusted position, and the antifriction roller-sleeves G on the lateral lugs H of the arms I are opposite the straight portions of the opposing tracks constituting parts of the standards aforesaid. When the support is swung to horizontal position, the antifriction-sleeves incasing arm-lugs act as trolleys on the track portions of the standards, and the contour of the tracks is such that binding is prevented, while at the same time the swing of said support is necessarily gradual,it being practical to leave the aforesaid support at less than full adjustment in either direction.
The support is looked against descent from horizontal position by the engagement of the sleeve-incased arm-lugs in seats at the junction of thevertical track and horizontal head portions of the standards.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of standards havingupper rearwardly-extending horizontalportions and forward partly curvilinear vertical track portions, a support, arms attachable to the support and provided with lateral lugs, trackopposing antifriction roller-sleeves on the lugs, and braces pivotally attachable at their ends to said standards and support.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wiscousin, in the presence of two witnesses.
