.IM PRO VEMENT IN STOVE-CASTER FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,531, dated April 10, 1877; application filed February 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLIsoN H. VOORHEES, of Bella, in the county of Marion and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement'in Stove-Caster Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to adjustable supporting-frames for stoves; and consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts composing the same, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, A A designate the two main bars of my supportingframe, which are crossed and bolted together at their middle parts, where they are recessed, so as to allow them to turn about said point of attachment, the one above the other. After loosening the bolt a, whereby they are socured, they may be turned so as to present to each other any angle desired, thereby widening or narrowing said frame to correspond to the width of the stove which it is to uphold. Tightening said bolt clamps them in the position to which they have been thus adjusted.
Each bar A is provided, near each end, with a longitudinal slot, A (Shown in Fig. 1.) Under each slot A is a broader longitudinal recess, A (shown in cross-section in Fig. 2,) formed in the under side of the bar A, in which recess sits a second bar, B, which is clamped to said bar A by means of a bolt, 12, passing up through said slot A After loosening said bolt said bar B may be extended or withdrawn, so as to increase or diminish the length of the frame in that direction, the bolt b being tightened, so as to secure said bar B in its new position. The four extension-bars B, arranged at the four ends of the crossed bars A A, are alike in length and general construction, and each is provided at its outer end. with a downwardly-extending leg or tubular standard, 0, in which turns the vertical shank of a caster-wheel, D. By means of these four casters D the frame and the stove supported thereby may be conveniently moved from one spot to another.
In-case the stove has its feet or legs wider apart at one end than at the other, the two sliding bars B B at one end of the supportingframe are extended, and those at the other end retracted, until the said supporting-frame corresponds to said arrangement of the stovefeet.
On the upper side of the outer end of each sliding bar B, and immediately above its standard 0, is formed an expansion, E, which is nearly circular in form, and provided with a raised rim, e, so as to serve for a holder for one of said stove-feet. By means of these holders the stove-feet are securely retained in position upon said frame; but they offer no impediment to raising the stove from the same.
By means of the adjustments hereinbefore described this supporting-frame may be adapted to any form or size of stove.
The dealer in stoves may mount upon these frames as many stoves as may be desired for exhibition in his store-room. He can readily slide them back under the shelving when the inspection is finished, and thus economize space. The said frame can be used as a truck, to move stoves about the building or outside of the same. It can also be used to support and move other articles. My frame consists of very few parts, and the adjustments thereof are very simple.
The adjustable bars A, A, and B, and standards 0, might be used without casters; but such an arrangement, though coming within the scope of my invention, would obviously be less convenient than that hereinbefore de scribed.
Instead of the slots A grooves A and bolts b, any form of sleeve may be attached to each sliding bar B, and provided with any suitable clamping device.
I am aware that adjustable stove-supporting frames have heretofore been used, sazd frames consisting of two parallel extensible bars and a cross bar or bars; but the number of parts in such frames exceeds the number of parts which I employ, and the adjustment is different. My device saves material, trouble, and expense, by reason of its simplicity.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, in a supporting-frame for stoves, of crossed bars A A, pivoted together at their middle points, with extensionbars B B and standards or legs 0 O, the said frame being adjustable longitudinally and laterally, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
