FREDERICK OOAKLEY, OF HOLYWOOD, IRELAND.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. June 19, 1906.
Application filed January 10. 1906- Serial No..295,4=l 4.
I To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK COAKLEY, residing at 107 High street, Holywood, County Down, Ireland, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Slip or Case for Pillows, Bolsters, and Cushions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slips or cases for pillows, bolsters, and cushions; and it has for its object to improve them.
Under this invention the slip or case is 'made at one .of its sides with a s uare or blong opening in the body of the s ip, and this opening, which is preferably at the center, is covered by means of a flap or piece which is secured to the case at both of its ends or sides only, thereby leaving openings for the in sertion of the illow, bolster, or cushion. Of
- course, if so esired, the flap or cover-piece may be sewed so. as to leave a single opening for the insertion of the pillow, bolster, or
\ cushion.
In order that my said invention may be properly understood, I have hereunto aption taken on the line .2 z of the same figure.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawmgs;
the slip or case a is made with a square or oblong openingb in the body thereof, and this opening, which is preferably at the center, is covered by means of a flap or piece a, which is secured to the slip at the top andbottom only by sewing or the like (I d,.thereby leaving vertical openings at e e for the insertion of the pillow, bolster, or cushion.
6 represents the one side of the opening I), and b the other side thereof. It will be seen that the sides of the cover-piece c overlap the sides of the opening. Of course, if so desired, the flap or cover-piece 0 may also be secured to the slip or case a by sewing or the like along the one side or. other as well as at the top and bottom d d, so as to leave only a single opening e for the insertion of the pillow or the like.
In the modified construction of pillowslip I or case (illustrated at Figs. 3, 4:, and 5) the slip or case a is made with a rectangular opening I), which is provided with a flap or cover-piece c, secured 'at each end to the front f of the body of the slip or case a, by
means of sewin or the like along the lines (Z d. The top 0 the opening is indicated by the line b, the bottom by the line 6 and the sides by the lines, 6 In this case the openings e are longitudinal instead of vertical, and the pillow or the like can be slipped into place by lifting up the cover 0 at one of the openings 6 and then inserting the pillow into the opening I). The top and bottom partsof the cover-piece c overlap the top and bottom parts of the opening of the slip.
Under this invention when the pillow, bolster, or cushion is inserted in the slip or case a through the opening I) in the body the v flap or cover 0 covers over the opening I) and hides the pillow, bolster, or cushion. The flap "or cover may be sewed or otherwise secured to the body, and it maybe made of any suitable length or width.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent, is
1, Slips or cases for pillows, bolsters, or cushions made with an opening I) in one side only thereof and intermediate the ends thereof for the insertion of the pillow, bolster, or cushion, said opening being covered by means of a flap or piece c secured at opposite ends to the body of the slip.
2. Slips or cases for pillows, bolsters, or cushions made with a rectangular opening in one side intermediate its ends, said opening being covered over by means of a rectangular flap or piece 0 which is secured at two of its sides only to the body ofthe slip or case and overlapping said opening.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a case having closed ends and sides, one of said sides having an opening therein and a flap or piece secured only at opposite sides to said open side and covering the opening therein, the unattached sides of said flap overlapping said opening.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FREDERICK ooAKLEr.
