j Be it knownthat I, JAMEs H. BOYE, a citizen of. the United States, residingatChicago, in the county of Cook and State ofIllinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Commodity-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates particularly to commodity-cabinets for use in storing various small articles of merchandise in a manner to enable them to be readily accessible to the merchant in making sales, the device being particularly designed to prevent confusion alnd loss of time in the finding of small arti- 0 es. 4

he device comprises in the preferred construction a casing A, adapted to rest upon a counter, a commodity-carrier B, rotatably mounted within the casing and having an upwardly-extending shaft 1) pro'ecting through acentral perforation, nyith which the casingtop a is provided, and an indicator 0, firmly secured to the upper end of the shaft 1; and playing over a circular index 0, with which phe casing-top is provided on its upper surace.

The casing may be of any approved form and construction. It is shown in the form of v a rectangular box, the top a of which is provided with a hand-opening a and the front wall of which is provided with a registering opening a facilitating the removal of articles from the commodity-carrier. with the articles received by the receptacles of the carrier. In the instance illustrated the index is made up of the representations of sewing-machine needles of various makes,

numbered 1 to 7, inclusive, thenumerals being arranged to correspond with the numerals of the commodity-receptacles, and the spacing of the-numerals of the index corresponding with the numerals of the commodity-receptacles.

The arrangement is such that when the indicator is turned to point to any particular article indicated on the index the receptacle for that article will appear at the hand-opening of the casing. Thus in Fi 1 the indicator C points to the No. 4 nee e, and the No. 4 receptacle appears at the hand-opening op- In filling the receptacles therefore it is only necessary to turn the carrier so that the indicator will point to the various characters of the index and fill the receptacles with the appropriate articles, as the receptacles are uncovered in turn at the hand-opening. When a sale is to .be effected, the indicator is turned to the character on the index designating the particular article desired, thus bringing the appropriate receptacle into registration with the hand-op ening, enabling the article to be removed from the carrier. It is thus possible to find the articles desired withgreat facility, and it matters not that the clerk who may wait upon the customer is inexperienced in the particular departmentin which the commodit-cabinet is employed. The receptacles may e of any desired form. Thus the receptacle 4 comprises a series of vertical perforations or receiving-tubes (1, containing needles, and the receptacle 6 comprises simply a scallop or recess in the up er surface of the member I) for receiving nee es in bulk.

While I have illustrated for thesake of simplicity a cabinet arranged for use in connection withneedles, it will be understood that the cabinet may be put to any desired use.

What I regard'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination of a rotary commodity-carrier provided with a plurality of with a cover having a shaft-opening and a hand-opening, a rotary commodity-carrier mounted therein with a shaft projecting through said shaft-opening,'said carrier havcommodity-receptacles spaced at suitab e angles about its axis, an index on the cover encircling said shaft and having characters spaced to correspond with the spacing of the commodity-receptacles, and an indicator fixed to said shaft and serving as a carrier rotator, for the purpose set forth.

3. A commodity-cabinet" comprising, in combination, a casing havin a top provided With a shaft-openin and a and-opening, a spider having a sha' t extending through the shaft-o ening and equipped with a rigidlysecure indicator, a member removably connected with the spider and provided with a plurality of commodity-receptacles arranged radially about the axis of the spider, and an index on the upper surface of the casing-top having radially-arranged characters spaced to correspond With the spacing of the cornmodity-receptacl-es, for the purpose set forth.
