Description
Sept. 13, 1938. R. SAMUEL 2,129,879
DISPLAY BOX Filed March 5, 1938 5 i J JB-SamueZ Patented Sept. 13, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application March 5,
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a display box and in view of its assembly and operation I particularly refer to the same as a Merry-go-round box.
It is an object of the invention to provide a box of this kind wherein a wall thereof, preferably an applied cover or lid, is provided with a suitably positioned opening through which may be selectively exhibited or displayed the content of the box which is carried by a rotating platform or table and wherein said platform has a portion extending outwardly of the box to provide convenient means for rotating the platform.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved display box whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a display box constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in top plan of the box as herein disclosed with the cover or lid removed;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, B denotes the body of the box including a bottom wall I of desired dimensions and configuration and which has its marginal portions defined by the flanges 2 with which is adapted to be engaged in a conventional manner a slip cover 0. Thisslip cover C includes a top or face wall 3 substantially conforming to the dimensions and configuration of the bottom wall I, said wall 3 being also defined by the marginal flanges 4 which lap the flanges 2 of the body B when the cover or lid 45 C is in applied position.
Held to the bottom wall I of the body B by a staple 5 or the like is a circular platform 6, said staple serving as a mounting for the platform and about which said platform readily rotates.
50 The platform 6 is of such radius and the staple or mounting 5 is so positioned upon the bottom wall I of the body B to permit a marginal portion of the platform 6 at all times to extend outwardly through an elongated slot or opening I in a 55 flange 2 immediately adjacent to the platform 6.
1938, Serial No. 194,188
v This projected portion a of the platform 6 provides means whereby the platform may be readily rotated at will without the necessity of removing the applied cover or lid C.
At a predetermined point inwardly of its peripheral margin the platform 6 carries an annular continuous upstanding flange 8 which substantially bridges the space between the platform 6 and the wall 3 of the applied cover or lid C.
The platform 6 together with the flange 8 constitutes a tray to hold desired merchandise. The wall 3 of the cover or lid 0 is provided with a relatively large opening having its side margins 11 inwardly converging and with its outer margin 0 arcuate and disposed on a radius substantially equal to the radius of the flange 8 and with said margin 0 closely adjacent to said flange 8 when the cover or lid C is applied. This opening 9 provides means whereby visual access may be had to the articles carried by the platform 6 and adjusted upon rotation of said platform 6 for display through the opening 9.
While in the present embodiment of my invention the opening 9 is free and unobstructed yet it is to be understood that when desired a transparent lamination of any desired kind may be disposed thereacross. As the provision of such a lamination is well known it is not believed that a detailed illustration thereof is necessary as, of course, the invention as herein disclosed is equally advantageous for use without the use of such a sheet or lamination.
One of the flanges 4 of the cover C has a marginal portion cut out, as at Ill, for register with the slot 1 in a flange 2 to allow for the desired protrusion of a portion of the platform 6 without hinderance or obstruction being offered by the applied cover C.
It is to be stated that the platform 6 is in close contact with the bottom wall I of the body B. This is of advantage as the resultant frictional engagement serves to provide a braking action for the platform 6.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a display box constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and used, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some changes and modifications without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. A display box comprising a bottom wall, a top wall, an intervening flange for maintaining said walls in spaced relation, said flange immediately adjacent to one of the walls being slotted, a platform contacting with the wall having the slot immediately adjacent thereto, means for securing said platform to said wall and for rotation, said point of attachment for the platform and the radius of the platform allowing a peripheral portion of the platform at all times to extend out through the slot, a continuous flange carried by the platform and spaced inwardly from the peripheral edge of the platform, said flange of the platform substantially bridging the space between the top and bottom walls, and an opening within the wall remote from the platform to permit visual access to articles carried by the platform within the field defined by the flange.
2. A display box comprising a bottom wall, a
top wall, an intervening flange for maintaining said walls in spaced relation, said flange immediately adjacent to one of the Walls being slotted, a platform contacting with the Wall having the slot immediately adjacent thereto, means a for securing said platform to said wall and for rotation, said point of attachment for the platform and the radius of the platform allowing a. peripheral portion of the platform at all times to extend out through the slot, a continuous flange 1 carried by the platform and spaced inwardly from the peripheral edge of the platform, said flange of the platform substantially bridging the space between the top and bottom walls, and a opening within the Wall remote from the platform 1 to permit visual access to articles carried by the platform within the field defined by the flange, said opening being positioned above the portion of the platform inwardly of and immediately adjacent to the flange carried by the platform.
