Description
No. 823,178. PATENTED JUNE 12, 1906.
W. J. HUNTER. v. ATTACHMENT FOR TRUNK HANDLES.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.2.190 5.
WDTNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WAI'lTER J. HUNTER, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. ATTACHM ENT FOR TRUNK-HANDLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
:atented June 12, 1906.
Application filed August 2, 1905. Serial No. 272,391.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER J HUNTER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachments for Trunk- Handles, of which improvement the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trunk-handles and similar articles.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for handles attached to trunks, cases, boxes, &c., which will not only supplement and support the same when the article is being lifted or carried by the handles, but will also revent the u ward pressure from causing t e handle to pinch against the sides of the trunk or box, and thus make it annoying to the party handling the same.
I accomplish the object of this invention by the novel construction hereinafter more s ecifically described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective View of an end portion of a trunk, showing the application of my improvement to the handle thereof. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the handle attachment. Fig. 3 is a section through the handle and adjacent art of the trunk, showing the osition of t e attachment when the handle is pulled upward in the act of lifting the trunk or box. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of handle attachment.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a trunk. 2 is the handle thereof, secured to the end thereof in any suitable manner. 3 is a support comprising a hook adapted to be inserted over t e handle at the middle or center thereof, the lower end of said hook having thereto attached in any suitable manner a chain or other flexible attachment 4, the lower end of which is attached to a staple 5, secured in the end of the trunk.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modified form of my device in which the separable ends of the ring 8 is secured by the slip ring or loop 10. The lower end of said r' g 8 is secured to the chain 9.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a trunk-handle attachment or suport, a hook adapted to engage over the hanle of the trunk and a flexible cord or chain attached to the lower end of said hook and to the end of the trunk, substantially as described.
2. In a trunk-l1andle, the combination of a flexible handle attached to the end of a trunk and a flexible attachment removably secured thereto and to the end of the trunk, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WALTER J. HUNTER.
In presence of- CLARENCE A. WILLIAMS, JOHN H. RoNEY.
