'NITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
CHRISTOPH WINTERGERST, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VAPOR-BURNERS.
Specioation forming part of Letters Patent No. 82,262, dated September 15, 1868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. CHRISTOPH WINTER- GERsT, of the city of Mobile, in the county of Mobile, and in the State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Petroleum-Vapor Lamp; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of :my invention consists in producing a clear, strong, and safe ame and light, impervious to any danger of explosion,
and much cheaper to the consumer.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will'now prooeed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification.
A represents the reservoir for the oil, which passes through the tube B into the burner O. The lower end of the tube B is iilled with' a lamp-wick, to prevent the oil from passing through too quick.
On top of the burner C is a small hole for the escape of the gas 4generated by its own burning, and the flame is regulated by the screw G, which passes up into the burner, and is provided with a iine point, which extends into the hole in top of the burner. Over this hole is a ring, E, with a thumb-screw, F, which divides the ilame, and in rear of this ring is a winged plate, D, extending upward, which acts as a reflector, and at the same time as a generator of gas from the oil passing through the lamp-wick in the 'tube B.
The light produced over the burner of this lamp is free and clear, and resembles a gaslight.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the reservoir A, curved tube B, burner C, screws Gr F, ring E, and plate D, whereby a light is produced and so divided that a larger and brighter llame is formed, all as herein specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing i11- vention I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of May, 1868.
CHRISTOPH WINTERGERST.
