MICHIGAN.-
Be it known that l, leere UNeER, a vcitizen of 'the United; States, residing Aat Iron Mountain, in the county of Dickinson and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chair-Guards, of which the following is a speciiication.
ll/ly inventlon relates particularly to Ihi'h chairs; and my ,primary object is to provi e niproved means for securing an infant in its c air. i f
ll accomplish my purpose'oi rendering chairs ping the table or tray of the ordinaryr 'gh chan with a dependingguard of special' forml and adjustable connectlons.
' y 'lhe invention is illustrated its referred embodiment in the accompanying awings, inwhich l Figure 1 represents'a perspective view of the upper portion of a high chair, showin the tray, which is partly raised, equhippe tray and guard, an
with my improved adjustable guard; a breken top` rear erspective View oi the dplFig. 3 a broken section taken as indicated at line 3 of Fig. 2. y
in the construction shown, A represents a chair suplied Witha seat a, n'rus a', and av p a tray movably connected with the chair, as by means ci arms t, joinedby pivots b to the 'chair-bach, and C a guard of bach a2;
special form adjustably joined brackets c to the tray.
- The construction olE the chair is unimpor? tant, except that it should have arms which the tray s oi use. e tray is of integral construction and may be movably connected with the chair either in the manner shown or in any other desired manner.
'.lhe guard @may be of any suitable shape and material. Preerabl it comprises a curved wooden member o integral construe-- tion, provided at its lower edge with curved recesses c', which serve vto receive and conne the limbs of a child when the child is resting upon the chair-seat. These recesses are on opposite sides of the medial plane d of the tray and guard, bein separated by the central rejection c2. T eguard projectsdown- War ly from the tray near the rear ed e thereof; being sup orte`d on the brackets w 'ch are rigidly and etachably secured to the lower si e of the tray in front of the guard. Each bracket preferably comprises an angle-iron,

The ardis equipped near its ends with forwar y-projeotmg threaded studs or bolts c", which assthrough the slots c8 ofthe brackets an are equipped with thumb-nuts c, by may b securely at lan desired height. The guard-is short enoug to enter readily between the arms of the chair when the tray islowered to its position onthe arms, but .issuiiicientin dimensions to form a substantial closure for the space beneath the tray, and above the space normally occupied bythe childs limbs.,
l The advantages of the improved construction will at'once be understood by those familiar with the requisites.
